Atlanta's Black Lips have premiered the third video from their latest album Arabia Mountain. The Jake Burghart directed clip finds the lyrical manifesto "New Direction" playing out literally as the flower punk quartet are propelled upwards and outwards over sprawling mountains and rivers, powered only by unbridled catchiness and green screen technology. The video acts as a preview for the fifth installment of the Scion A/V Video Series, which launches in earnest with 10 new videos by a variety of artists on Tuesday, July 19th.

I thought this was an older song when I first heard it on the T-Mobile commercial. It's such an infectious, pleasantly retro song! And the video cracks me up!

You said it, Girlfriend. Bands want their music heard by as many people as possible. What difference is it how they get the music out there? It looks like they are gaining loads of new fans from that advert. I'm one of them!

I actually like this song quite a bit BUT because it is now the theme song for T-mobile I am torn...somehow that cheapens the song...i really wish good bands would stop allowing corporations to co-opt their music...I have AT&T as my cell phone carrier and Comcast as my internet provider...I am happy with both BUT would still be upset if a band I liked allowed a song that is important to me to be used as a commercial theme...
I feel the same way. It's nifty being able to find songs through commercials, but it's really lame as well.
I also have to add that I always find it really tacky and frustrating when the same song is used for different commercials. One example is 'Make Someone Happy' by Jimmy Durante...
I used to believe in the "sell out" thing as well. But after a little research I realized just how hard it is for musicians to make money and how often they get shafted. This is there job and they need money just like we do so I no longer fault the band. They're also finding new fans this way too!
