@panzerkampfwagen9859 generally, cane blades are more durable than you think. They don't snap unless you're a complete idiot with it. In which case, most blades would snap under the same thing.
It's mechanically necessary for the bottom end compartment to be strong and solid enough to withstand serious use walking about, you could either have it unscrewed under a belt and coat or alternatively keep the knife screwed in and just use the scabbard as a club with the sword.

I've seen people use ballistic clipboards that are bullet resistant, IF the person is quick enough and strong enough to be able to block a round or two. After 2 rounds though, the clipboard was so compromised, I don't think it could take another round without shattering, and letting the round through. Nor would I think the person holding it would be able to do much of anything else after holding the clipboard, and absorbing 1500 fps, 9mm incoming rounds. They'd probably end up with broken or dislocated digits, or shattered wrists.
As someone who owns a version of one of these types of things, I can say that the knob top is very uncomfortable. If you get one, get a birdseed handle.
