1- LTE 2 2- LTE 1 3- LTE 3 Love the Keith Jarrett vibe of Liquid Dreams and i hear a Pat Metheny influence on Osmosis and Liquid Evolution. Great show!
When you put 3 Dream Theater members and one of the most iconic King Crimson bassists of all time together in one room, you have an amazing band of top notch players with some badass music. For a band that's only put out so far 3 albums, it can sometimes be a challenge but for my rankings, this wasn't too hard for me as i really enjoy all of them and i always looked at Liquid Tension Experiment as an instrumental Dream Theater with a slightly different lineup. Rudess and Levin are at their absolute best in this enviroment, they bring a lot colour and groove in their playing while Portnoy brings the muscle in the drumming and Pertucci adds plenty of speed but the music feels a lot more improvised in the jams which i really like as it helps showcase all four musicians individually. I'm really pleased that LTE are back together and look forward to hearing more new material from these monster players. Great show and really enjoyed hearing all of your rankings, here is my ranking 1. LTE 3 2. LTE 1 3. LTE 2
I like 3 Minute Warning. Keep in mind, it was recorded during the Falling Into Infinity era, when they were bottled up by the record label. With the Indie Label, they were free to do whatever they wanted, so they did a 30+ Minute improv track. They were featured in Jam Base at the time, and some of my jam band friends liked them. Guys who were not Prog or Metal fans. But, they never committed to a major tour or played at any big festivals.
As you said they are all really close but I go: 3, 2, 1 as my 1, 2, 3 :) Love all of that stuff but for me freedom of speech and key to the imagination always blow me away. Thanks guys for your opinions about this amazing band!
Played these 3 minimum of 10x each. All heavy duty:phenomenal musicians. IMO. Only “ dug into” these guys prior , due to Pete/ Silence is Golden Eric and GEORGE mentioning them in past episodes. But, this week played them constantly. Probably/ the minority but here’s my ranking. 1- no 1️⃣. 2- no 3️⃣. 3- no 2️⃣ (last, because I love the first 5 songs, but last 3 I do not care for). However, all 3. Damn good. Thanks for these rankings. Love it TRIO. 👍💯
@@ericporter344 / lol. Your right on it this am. I would never miss an episode with you. Barring an unexpected problem etc. definitely see you brother in a bit 👍💯
John Petrucci is a great melodic guitarist in his own solo albums and the album he recorded with Jordan Rudess. This is the hardest ranking ever....everyday the order changes
I've never liked Dream Theater, so I haven't heard these guys much. It's just not for me. I will watch this video, though, because I love talking/listening to people talk about any music. Thanks, guys!
I never liked DT either but I like LTE (only heard the first 2) with the caveat that the tunes that are more "composed" work better than the ones that are just off-the-cuff jams. Even better is Petrucci's first solo album, "Suspended Animation." All instrumental, very melodic and varied.
@@georgelamie7001 Oh, my bad indeed: they did actually play it in 2002, confirmed by a bootleg recording from that tour. You live and you learn, I guess! Thanks for this little bit of trivia :)
Just like Derek sherinian catalog they are all good and basically the same. Certain projects in my opinion are sort of just really can't be ranked .basically all the same in the catalog
Dream Theater and Liquid Tension Experiment have the same problem for me now - far too much "mechanical diddly-diddly-look-how-clever-we-are-filling-every-bit-of-silence-with-some-instrument-or-other" and just ending up with sterile music. Back to the 1970's for me when musicians understood about "musical space" and not simply trying to play the fastest or more notes than their contemporaries. I blame Metallicock - four "musicians" who started off life racing to see who could get to the end of each song first.
@@chrissmith3668 I would expect Metallicock (please do write their name correctly) to do nothing more than stay out of my earshot. As long as they do that and I don't have to listen to their rubbish, or to Lars Ulrich screaming in pain trying to get his ego through doorways, then I am entirely happy. And I am sure the feeling is mutual too.

Love to hear you guys do an album review of Petrucci's solo album "Terminal Velocity"
I did a review & interview all in one with John himself here on the channel 3 years ago when it came out.

LTE 3 is also my go to ... the other two are a ways behind but good in spots
Easy ranking for me. LTE 2, .LTE 3, LTE 1 in order from last to most favorite. First one is still the leader of the pack despite 3 minute warning.
1. Liquid Tension Experiment
2. Liquid Tension Experiment 3
3. Liquid Tension Experiment 2
1) Liquid Tension Experiment 2
2) Liquid Tension Experiment
3) Liquid Tension Experiment 3
4) Liquid Trio Experiment - Spontaneous Combustion
For me, it’s 3, 2, 1. Universal Mind is also in my opinion the definitive prog song.

Mike Portnoy had approached Steve Morse, Dimebag Darrell, et al prior to asking John Petrucci to join the group.
Yes, we discussed in the episode how scheduling didn’t line up and his wife said, why not ask John. Funny story

Yes! I remember it was supposed to be Dimebag. Would've been amazing.

I would love to see a album ranking of SUNSTORM Catoluge
I'm with Eric and Pete. I think each one got a little better. LTE3 got better with each listen.
👍 thanks for watching
I never imagined that Muke Portnoy would be the drummer to branch out like he has.
Why’s that?
I only have the first two and I'm mixed on them. The compositional tunes are great, the improvised tunes, not so much.
John Petrucci is a great melodic guitarist in his own solo albums and the album he recorded with Jordan Rudess. This is the hardest ranking ever....everyday the order changes
😂 you’re right
Have you listened to Rock Candy Funk Party? They are a jazz fusion band.

I don’t think Dream Theater ever performed Another Dimension, at least there’s no recorded evidence of that!
Setlist fm shows they did it 14 times in 2002, including on the date I saw here. The olds haven't taken me over yet! :)
