Absolutely lovely! Such clarity and simplicity, with the solo woodwind melody leading the soprano voice along and tying the whole aria together. I have loved this aria ever since I first heard it at the University of Saskatoon at Christmas in 1973.
The singing is lovely; the only thing missing are the trills. But I find the bass line a bit 'lumpy', I'd prefer more legato, and, as ever, I prefer the more vulnerable sound of the Baroque oboe to the modern instrument. The organ has an odd 'jingling' sound, like a distant ice-cream van!!
