Hurricane Hugo, Thunderstorm, Gandanga, Freedom fighter, Warrior, Tsunami, the pride of Zimbabwe. I am blessed to have a brother like Dr Thomas Mapfumo.
Chiruzevha chapera (disruption of rural life) a song that highlights how the liberation struggle in the 1970s disrupted our African cultural practices that valued traditional gender roles as chembere (old women) and mhandara (girls) were responsible for feminine tasks such as cooking while harahwa (old men) & majaya (boys) had their own masculine tasks such as woodworking. The masterpiece addresses how this flourishing rural lifestyle was disrupted when people were forced to scatter all over running for their dear lives, others lost their limbs (vamwe vakadimbuka makumbo), others were tragically burnt in their houses ( kutsvira mudzimbà). In short, the liberation struggle, while fighting colonialism, came with a significant price that cost not only human lives but also eroded cultural capital. 😢
I was at a convenience store tonight and heard this music...loved it! The man listening to it was African and gladly shared artist name:-) still good people in this crazy world!
We have so much in common & we have to stop allowing the powerful to divide us. That is happening in the USA & only good people on the losing side see it. All created in God's image
One- It doesn't need you to understand the language. Two- Quality of the sound I can't explain it. Three- The set up of the stage and the band members very organised. Four- They only don't perform for money they're doing it from the heart. Fifth- I call it creation of employment if you can check the number of band members. That's why I prefer music with instruments. Doctor Thomas Mapfumo and Doctor Oliver Mtukudzi you're my heroes,RIP Doctor Mtukudzi.
I am a Dominican from the fast merengue tropical rhythm black race from Senegal long live our African people from there we come a question if Africans are fast dancing with their feet dragged and jumping because the Haitian is slow in his dance kompa direk in the minutes 17:09 look at the dancers look at that movement That's what I mean because if the Haitian comes from Africans, why they don't dance fast will be because of their jazz and zoka rhythm called kompa direk.
He is my goat in Zim music.. no one hits it like him even if you try to imitate. The song just tell me where I come from, Africa, Zimbabwe. All is in the music and most importantly speaks a rural language which many aren’t good or know at all eg chiruzevha ❤
My 5 year old daughter born to a Afrikaans mother in Kimberley South Africa will correct you if you say Thomas Mapfumo. She say "No it's Dr Thomas Mapfumo". That's how I told the Mom. To emphasize the title.
I don't where those dislikes come fro don't hate. This guy is a legend, best ever show l have watch."Joyce chengeraaaa rume rako rinorutaaaa iweeee, ndakariona richichachura kwambuya iweeee kunyepa kunyepa"Long live

The Lion of Africa. He is the man, out of Zimbabwe & Africa, out of Chimurenga came out the Legend, man of the povho (majority). He never let down on the causes & concerns of ordinary citizens, if leaders had ears & wisdom, they would incline their ears and be informed. At his heart lies love for his Motherland & its citizens and "true" friends. The Great, Chimurenga Master Dr Thomas 'Mukanya' Mapfumo, the free speaker & fighter for freedom for all. Recognised & respected internationaly but very humbled. A comic of his own genre when it comes to interviews on music excerlency! Salute !!!
