Great retrospective! I totally agree with you. The new Speedy is ok, but doesn’t do anything for me. It was executed just right but I feel after many reissues and faux vintage references (not just Omega). I’m desensitized from the nu-vintage look. I much prefer the 1861. It’s cleaner and a straight to the point chronograph. However I never was a fan of the bracelet even though it fits perfect on my 7” wrist. Many guys with small wrist complain the end links make the watch wear large. I can see that. If the 1861 bracelet tapered brown at the clasp. It would look better IMO. It’s a good bracelet but I put a Uncle Seiko 1171 style bracelet on my Speedy. Looks like a 1980’s Speedy.
You need to look at the step dial in real life. Adds more depth to the dial. The changes theyve made just revive what the Speedy originally looked like, bar the markings between the minute track, though it is a functional change which allows more accurate reading 6th of a second
I have now seen one & honestly i prefer mine, just looks cleaner. Also i think the price increase is too much & I’ve heard there are complaints around the case finishing being a tad sharp. Defo sticking with mine.
