    You are certainly right Lyn!! So much to do to get ready for spring!! I also have a spring project. The back wall of the greenhouse is just old tin. At work they have had us breaking down old shipping crates & pallets. I have been collecting quite a bit of wood slats. I'm going to cover the back wall in these slats!! Like an old wood wall!! And I can then hang plants from it also!! Lots to do!!! Thanks for sharing Lyn!! Spring is almost here!!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, to across the emerald isle, have a wonderful day!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!✌️💖🌵🌷🌴🌸🌿🌻🍀🌾💐🌱🌳🌹🪴😃👍

    Thank you for a great video and checklist! I was finally reunited with my collection after 5 weeks yesterday, and have just spent time assessing where things are at - most of the tiny seedlings look unwell through lack of water, although I think some will survive. Last year's trichocereus seedlings that were outside under shelter have turned purple - they were in a sunny spot and it has been unseasonably warm. The more mature plants are all looking fine, if a little shrivelled.
    I now realise I have lots of repotting to do (maybe 50 plants) and also have loads of seeds on order - agaves, echinopisis and more agaves mainly. Oh and Dyckia Brevifolia. So that will be a lot of fun, and I hope I don't lose too many of these.

      Thats fantastic you have seeds on order and you have chosen a fantastic selection to grow, I have Dyckia breviflora too and they are amazing plants, thats brilliant you are back home and all your mature cacti look good, I am sure your Tricho seedlings will green back up again over the coming weeks too, I will keep my fingers crossed you tiny seedlings recover well after a good watering, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful new week XXXX

    Thank you for another educational video Lyn. It's time to plant my Echinocereus Rigidissimus Rubiuspinis seeds. She bloomed in spring and wonder of wonders with no other cactus like her around she produced seeds. My Mammies are needing a repot as they have lost a lot of soil due to the large hole in their terra cotta pots. I think I've lost my Gymno as she has turned a purple color and has flattened to the level of the soil. It started in late summer no matter how much I watered. If she has passed, I plan to buy an Astrophytum Myriostgma or a Mammilliaria Knebeliana.

    Question, my monkey tail Cactus is starting to curl is there anything I can do about that? All my haworthia are looking rough too I'm not sure whatbim doing wrong any suggestions??

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  6 месяцев назад

      Hi Tom, sometimes the tails can grow a little curled by nature, but if they are starting to curl too much it could be caused from either dehydration or insect pests, it may be best to remove from its pot to thoroughly check over the roots in case there are any signs of insect pests like root mealy bugs hiding in the soil and roots, if all your Haworthias are not looking good it can be due to multiple issues, like dehydration or the wrong soil or insect pests, I would recommend checking thoroughly for signs of pests on both the foliage and the roots, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX

    What soil mix do you recommend for cacti?

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  6 месяцев назад

      Hi April, I make up my own soil mix of 3 equal parts of loam, grit and sand, but you can use any well draining cactus commercial soil mix, I use John innes number 2 loam based soil, with horticultural grit and horticultural sand, here is a link to a video I have made on how I make my own cactus soil: ruclips.net/video/8s9Jq7qbfA0/видео.html thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful new week XXXX

    I take my cacti indoors during winter. Is it wrong that I water them time by time?

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Gundega, ideally its best to keep them dry over the winter months, but if they are showing signs of being very shrivelled and because you have them indoors you can still give them a light watering, I sometimes have to water my indoor cacti in mid February if they start to shrivel too much, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful new week XXXX

      @@desertplantsofavalon Thank you for the answer. Do roots dry out during winter months and grow back when you start watering again?

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  6 месяцев назад

      @@gundegaberzina874 Yes the good news is the roots go dormant during the winter and can withstand many months with no water, then once the spring arrives and normal watering starts the roots wake up and come back into active growth, XXXX 🥰❤🌵

      @@desertplantsofavalon Thanks, my question is what happens with very thin feeding roots. Most likely they die back, correct?

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@gundegaberzina874 the thin feeding roots lose their very minute tiny hairs that come from the roots over the winter, these minute tiny hairs act like sensors for the roots for water, over the winter the tiny hairs die back but the main roots survive dry, in the spring when the watering starts again the roots will wake up and send out these very minute hair like fuzzy sensor hairs that detect water, nature really is amazing XXXX 🥰❤🌵
