I have the same concerns! I'm in San Blas now, heading to PV and beyond next month.

Starlink is just to good an improvement for liveaboard to accept to lose it.

"Apparently" residential & roam (rv) hardware are the same, just different plans, which is weird as in Au res is $199 vs $599 for roam (perhaps government rural rebate). Power use = 20w standby, 50-75w active. Vs High Performance (35% broader reach/to other satellites) is 45w standby, 110-150w active.

Would this work on a long blue water crossings? Starlink maritime is $5,000 a month, one reason for this is that there are no downlinks in the middle of the sea so all the data has to go sat to sat via the laser link (until it gets to shore), and that service might not work on the non maritime version.

I do not know the answer to this question at the moment. I am planning on crossing the Pacific toward French Polynésia in March. I will test all that during that passage stay tuned!

It won't work, SpaceX has limited or no coverage available in most ocean locations. It is expected to start in Q4 2022 and Q1 in 2023

it is also not supposed to work "while moving". This is why I try it. So far a lot of restrictions are effectively not being enforced.
