    The Toyota Tundra has no mechanical locker or true limited-slip differential like its competitors, there is a feature called Auto LSD. The automatic limited-slip differential or Auto LSD system enhances traction by using the traction control system to control engine performance and braking when one of the rear wheels begins to spin. This system should be used only when wheel spinning occurs in a ditch or on a rough surface.
    The system can be used on 2WD mode on 4WD models. This Auto LSD feature can be found on those Toyota vehicles :
    - Toyota Tacoma
    - Toyota 4Runner
    - Toyota Tundra
    - Toyota RAV4
    Note that it doesn't replace a true mechanical locker like those found on the Chevrolet Colorado!

      Toyota offers the mechanical diff lock in the Offroad and Pro package of the Tacoma. Too bad the Tundra doesn't offer it because it's pretty useful when you're stuck. For its defense, the Tundra's ATRAC system is quite effective but only available in 4Lo

    • @hectormiranda6010
      @hectormiranda6010 3 года назад +1

      @@kevinschrader5 GM has the g80 locker which is a little better than a regular disc clutch operated lsd, the difference is that with the g80 the vehicle can have the tires off the ground or not touching any surface and it will engage both tires at a minimum spin, on the other side the lsd will need at least a minimum of friction with the ground on the tire that’s loosing traction so it can engage the other side of the axle, unless you have an A-trac system the vehicle will apply brakes on the same side in order to do the same function. In fact the g80 is not an lsd but a mechanical locker.

    Until I saw this vehicle off-roading in the mountains I always thought the Tundra was garbage off-roader...it is not! This Auto LSD system in 4-low actually works great. I went with my buddies off-road club, and there were several Tundra Off-Road trucks and TRD Pro trucks, and every one of them operated like a champ. Of all the vehicles that got stuck or needed assistance not one of them was a Tundra.
    In 4-low this system is not bad at all.

    This is a poor representation of what a 4x4 Tundra is capable of and of how it simulates a locker. You’re in 2wd, yet you show green arrows moving forward on the three wheels that aren’t on the rollers. How does this not mislead people? Yeah the 4x4 font is in red, but it’s still pretty unclear (obvious by reading the comments). Surely you know that ATRAC would pop this Tundra right out of all of the situations you’ve presented here (and far worse). Surely you know that this is ONLY activated in 4LO. This video makes it seem that you either don’t understand how the Tundra’s systems work or you’re intentionally showing it in a bad light.

    • @QuestionAuto1
      @QuestionAuto1 3 года назад +2

      You have to read the title: Auto LSD test on roller and off-road | It's NO locker!. And as an owner of a Tundra, you know that Auto LSD works only in 2wd. AND you KNOW it's not great. 4x4 was not an option on that demo :)

    • @whackityschmackitydo

      @@QuestionAuto1maybe if 4x4 wasn’t an option, your title shouldn’t say “Toyota Tundra 4x4” and your graphic on the left shouldn’t say 4x4 with three wheels looking like they have power and the 4th wheel in red holding the truck back.
      If the title said 4x2 and the graphic had no arrows on the front wheels and said 4x2 instead of 4x4, this video would make a lot more sense. Instead it just looks like you’re misleading people.

      @@CarQuestion True but the rest of the ATRAC system kicks in and will get out out of the situation. The way they label the things is awful. Unless it is happening in the diff it should be called an LSD. It's really just one aspect of how the ATRAC system works. You can have one wheel completely off the ground and still get moving again. I believe the LSD function is meant for rain, ice, oil, or mud situations ON the road at road and highway speeds. On highways, the Limited slip would make driving around curves predictable and limit over and under steer. 4WD should be activated for offroad and climbing/crawling situations.

    That works like shit . Way too much wheel spin /gear noise. Total garbage. It’s not a limited slip . It says “ off road “ on the side of the truck so why the one wheel peel ? You can’t even find a substitute for it unless you buy a complete diff and that gets expensive real quick when you have to buy a compressor, lines , all the wires and switches in the cab , and you need to get it all installed after . I’d be embarrassed putting this shit on youtube . What the fuk were you thinking? That vid only proves that is complete failure. • @KTMcaptain
    @KTMcaptain 3 года назад +3

    Problem is, open differentials always have equal torque at both differential outputs (50/50 if you will). Once a wheel experience low grip, the other wheel can only generate as much torque as the weakest wheel can. Braking the spinning wheel sends torque to the opposite wheel, but half of the axles torque is wasted on the spinning wheel. A locker can send 0-100% of available torque to either wheel. Lift one off the ground and the other will get all the torque the axle can generate. Of course I’m excluding the torque used to spin the wheel freely which is little and counteracted by the opposite wheel having the same inertia. Not only that, but a locker is instantaneous in that it’ll maximize both wheels torque before spinning and continue to dynamically transfer torque while spinning. A traction control program cannot currently measure the torque transferred and just sees spinning wheels to brake.

I was more referring to the myriad of other issues like faulty cvt’s in the Corollas, leaking diffs in the Tacoma’s, burning oil in the Camry’s. These issues exist but as Toyota fans were not allowed to address them without being raked over the coals. I have no loyalty to any company. Just call it honest where I see it.
