- Today I went on a hunt for the Wavy Hair Grass (Deschampsia flexuosa) that I planted five years ago. I found a single plant growing amongst the tall prairie grasses the other day, and I've had it on my list to go look and see if the planting survived, so today is the day!

Thank you for watching Planet Mojo and have yourself a great day!
I'll be collecting those seeds soon, and broadcasting them around the property. Bottlebrush grass appears to propagate itself quite nicely, and the sharp seeds should help it stick to animals and spread pretty far. It is native to this area, but I have never seen it in the wild on our property until I planted it. The only time I have ever seen it in the wild was about 100 miles south of here in a state park the same year I planted this. This fall I will hand plant a patch behind the woodshop so I can study it better. 😊
I can't get over that pet cemetery! It is so cool that you tend the graves of old pets. I find that amazing! 😊
Thank you Robert! It's kind of a garden of memories 🤗
Hi Mojo, I can't tell you how much I admire your enthusiasm when it comes to all the native grasses you're trying to establish, great job.
Thanks Larry! It's getting to the point where I see grasses and flowers all over the property where they have spread from wind, water, and animals (and a bit of me broadcasting). It's pretty satisfying seeing what was lost coming back again 😊
Always interesting to find out the different grasses, wildflower ditch garden looking beautiful 🎉🎉
Thanks Jodi! I remember just after planting this, I was camping at a state park and found a single plant growing along the trail. A year earlier and I would have no idea what I was looking at. I like the knowledge as well as the beauty 😊
love bottlebrush grass. such a great texture, esp in mass plantings
Thanks Kat, I was wondering how it would look in a larger shade area have! The area was old farm field, and I am converting it back to an oak savanna. I have several large areas under trees where there is pretty much nothing now, and i didn't want to plant more rye. I'll plant a good sized area with this and see how it does 🤔
We have bottle brush grass around here. It's a beautiful grass!
It's native in this area, but our property was a farm for many years so there was very few native grasses when we moved here 😐
What an interesting grass! I wonder why you don't see that as a decorative grass at the nurseries?
It grows well in shade, so you would think it would make a nice option. Maybe it is too invasive? 🤔
the pink flower is beebalm ...monarda fistulosa. Great prairie plant
