    I love the whole idea of the trick going wrong being the trick itself. He blends it so seamlessly and makes it look effortless. The awkwardness of the initial "mistake" suddenly making way for the mind blowing nature of some of these routines is amazingly well put together. Masterful work.

    • @JLilliquist
      @JLilliquist Год назад +3

      Back when I was doing magic I always tried to fit in some comedy. It takes awhile to find the beats and timing but is actually easier with a small audience since you can see a read them for when to time things.

    I love Mario and his unique magic, when I first saw the salt routine I was floored, I re watched it for weeks! He is so natural and innocent. In an interview he said he loved to clown around and be clumsy with magic. He is an absolute genius!

  • @FatherFangs
    @FatherFangs Год назад +140

    Mario is so phenomenal. He has this Lennart Green style of messy, sloppy magic that makes the tricks hit so much harder because the audience expects it even less, and they also have NO idea what is going to come next. While you can feel those inspirations, his style is so unique still. He almost has this "I'm cursed" type of thing about him, where he's just trying to get through life but magical things keep happening that he can't control. Like a first-year at Hogwarts trying to learn how to control their powers or something. So fun.

    • @jakehero95

    My favorite thing about Mario’s performances is I can’t really tell if it’s more magic or comedy. It flip flops between them so seamlessly. You get to the end and you almost forget what he was originally intending to do, because you are so drawn in by what he’s actually doing.

    I love routines where the misdirection is primarily controlled chaos. Just constantly talking and moving their hands in seemingly flustered but not over-the-top ways. It's impressive how controlled he is. It's a great example of how a magic routine is so much more about how you present it and not the trick itself.

    I figured out why the "salt" goes on so long. It's a powder blend, possibly a baking powder and baby powder blend. It lasts a lot longer and it is why it leaves his hand white. He leaves multiple dissolvable packets on his body that he uses to replenish it in his hand when he touches hidden parts of his cloths, like his pocket or the side of his shoe. The rest is obviously activatable tubes.

    I adore Spanish magician Mario López. His acts are always so fun. Also, is it just me, or does the one Romanian hype man in the black shirt look almost exactly like Aaron Paul? I swear for a moment I was like "I didn't know Aaron Paul speaks Romanian." Realizing that he wasn't actually Aaron Paul might have been the part of this sequence that fooled me the most. The old Aaron Paul transposition effect.😅

    The almost Andy Kaufman-like ability to just let it rest in that uncomfortable awkwardness IMO makes the payoff so much greater. It builds just like anticipation does or like music crescendo in a horror film. IMO it takes a trick that is amazing in it's own right it makes it unforgettable, not just because of how amazing it was to watch, but the myriad of emotions it made you feel along the way. It plays to you on multiple levels. Genius.
