That was fun and interesting video. This and Tom's previous video about the loss of Bellator's credibility are reminding me why MMA on Point got so big.
The ufc robbed josh tomphson and yves edwards of their opportunity to win the ufc belt When these two were in their primes they were by far the best lightweights on the planet, but there was no belt to contend for That's why i was sad to see both of them years after in the ufc,way past their primes and just getting fed to young and hungry fighters
Yves Edward's sure. But by the time the UFC brought back the division Josh wasn't even in his best years. He was just chilling in EliteXC and Strikeforce in his prime.
There’s a reason why Anderson Silva always used to tell reporters “BJ Penn” when they would tell Anderson he was the best P4P in the sport, or ask him who he thought was best BJ back then was an unreal talent, and just loved to fight. He was incredible during his prime
thx for these reminders for the younger fans , have not watched yet but will show why a BJ Penn is a legend of the UFC and not some journeyman when people look at his record
There was more than BJ Penn who made LW what it was Anthony Pettis, Benson Henderson, Sean Sherk, Frankie Edgar, Jens Pulver, Clay Guida, Jim Miller etc. Lw has always been exciting to watch

Penn is such a g though. HE SMASHED Gomi, then this is kinda the story of Gomi doing well while Penn was off on side quests. UFC brings back LW, Penn comes back and dominates for years - years and years later. Penn is so under rated. He basically got robbed in his GSP loss if you use the new scoring criteria in the first fight and lost due to injury while dominating hughes in their second fight. Penn is one of the most under-rated GOATS. Pretty much all his lossed during that era have huge asterisks (also like the Machida loss) and he was just running around being hardcore, being in my opinion the best fighter at WW and LW until GSP matured into who he became later.
Dwane Ludwig had the best cross moving backwards I've ever seen. I mean it wasn't even a pull counter, this guy would get on his bicycle and then sleep you if you chased him.. Dude was soo legit. I remember his UFC debut, everyone was hyping his opponent Jonathan Goulet like he was the next GSP and Ludwig slept him in literally like 2 seconds. The official count was like 7 seconds, but man his right cross was nast E !
Am I gonna be the first one to say Jens Pulver was never that good, the competition level was just absolute shit back then and the UFC didn’t know any better
If BJ Penn wasn’t a wild animal fighting at literally weight I think it is clear he could have put together a GSP/Silva streak at Lightweight. Before Frankie Edgar he only lost once at Lightweight. Again he didn’t really care at what weight he fought losing only to Champions in higher weight classes. It’s a great what if. That said I don’t think BJ would want it any other way.
I think Tommy should be doing the lists & the lads should be doing these historical essays. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate the content when otherwise.
