- I reviewed the original Mytek Liberty DAC mid 2018 and liked it. Now there is a successor and it has been upgraded drastically.

Want one, can’t afford one. Good review.
Awesome youtube channel...😍👍
Thanks!
Thanks!
Thank you too.
Hans, thanks for this review. I bought the Mytek Liberty DAC II as a combined headphone amp and dac. I use it with a Sonore Optical Rendu (with Roon and Tidal) paired with the Focal Stellia headphones. I have upgraded most cables including the headphones cables (to Moon Audio Black Dragon). My issue is that the sound is *cool*. By contrast, using the Stellia headphones connected to my ipad via the Dragonfly cobalt amp/dac yields a much warmer -if less detailed - sound. My question is: would adding a dedicated headphone amp give me a warmer, more musical sound?
I nothing about headphones, I only listen over loudspeakers so I can't help you.
Hans, thanks for the DAC review. I may be taking liberties with your detailed review but... Do you like it more than the Pontus II or a comparable chord DAC?
That is a matter of taste.
Thanks for this informativ review Hans. I just wander if this Dac performs as well as a digital preamp..
Sure, my son uses it that way He even has his turntable hooked up to it.
I own a MKI DAC and was offered an upgrade to the new MKII by MyTek, all I can say is that MyTek are the most difficult company I have ever had to deal with and have had to make a complaint through PayPal for a refund which I was given only a couple of hours after making the complaint.
Great review Sir, which is better this dac, the RME ADI 11 or the Qutest? Is there a clearly better dac here?
I haven’t reviewed the RME so I can’t say.
Hi can you give me your opinion on the liberty dac ii verses Denafrips Pontus or airbus? ThxNick
I have reviewed the Liberty DAC II here: ruclips.net/video/IamIjJW5hxw/видео.html and the Pontus here: ruclips.net/video/a1a8l0-yDok/видео.html
May i know the spdif input support mqa cd?
Yes
And yes
Can the volume control be set to a fixed output? Or do you have to adjust every time you switch on? Thanks
It will remember the volume set. So if you turn volume to max, next time you turn it on it will be max. You need to download the latest version of firmware though
It remain at the setting you left it on when switched off. But I never switch off my DACs, that keeps the clock crystals at working temperature.
Another question: Is it’s sound signature similar to the Aries 2 or the Chord Qutest? Thanks
Volume control does that mean it can function as preamp ?
Yep
Did you try it Hans?
Thank you for this review Hans. I owned the original Liberty and as an upgrade from the older Schiit Bifrost it was a revelation in detail, transparency and imaging. I purchased the Ares II later, and that was a lateral move - more of a change in “flavor”. This Liberty II is close to the Pontus II in price, but offers significant upgrades over the old model. I am curious about differences in sound quality between the Pontus II and Liberty II? Is there a “house sound” for Denafrips and Mytek?
There certainly is
looking at this but also interested in the Merason Frerot at the same price.
And perhaps the new Ferrum product that is due soon.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel i was impressed with your review of its big brother the DAC 1 thanks.
Do you need a dedicated amp with this?
Any amplifier or power amplifier will do
Hellio Hans, is the Sond Quaility of the Brooklyn still better? Because i have the cahnce to buy a used Brooklyn DAC for 1000$ or should i buy the Liberty 2 for 1500?
I would go for the Brooklyn
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Albright, thanks :)
Dac development seems to be very fast at the moment so many dacs appearing, it's difficult to keep up. I did look at the original liberty but wasn't sure it would suit me. I think the Holo audio spring 3 would suit me best but just a bit outside of my budget so considering a gustard x26pro. I will have gauge how the new liberty compares. Due to the pace of development if you have a limited budget I don't see really stretching is wise, what is now 3k will probably be had for sub 2k in a few years.
You best wait another 20 years for then we might have ear implants at 30% of the current price of a DAC. I in the mean time enjoy the music.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Good quirky joke!
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel roasted to crisp lol
Good review. Others have complained that the 50% price increase is a turn off. You seem to take the position that the original Liberty could be faulted for not having a decent power supply, therefore the price increase for the Liberty II is justified by the inclusion of a proper one... which should have been standard on the original Liberty? I don't know, maybe I'll audition it.
To me it’s worth the extra money but that’s a personal thing.
No bombshell at the end?
Too many bombshells already
I am finally the first one to leave a comment on this excellent video one of my favorite guys Hans is the best
Hans IMO has an orientation toward finding quality, and reviewing quality. He's not one of these reviewers who will accept any sample from a company and spin his report to make it sound better than it is. That's why I trust him.
I have been thinking about testing out a external DAC with my BlueSound Node N130 but not sure if I will notice much of a difference unless I spend a fair amount on the upgraded DAC. What are your thoughts Hans?
That depends on what you consider a fair amount…
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel fair amount being anything more than the Node costs by itself. So say around $600-$800 ish.
That might give improvement. It depends on your stereo to what extent that is audible.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel I have a nice class A/B integrated with TEKTON Lore Reference and the Node
I was using a Node 2 and found the original Liberty DAC was definitely an improvement over the Node Dac, and I would assume the new Liberty to be even more so.
