    This is one of those scenarios we keep seeing in professional soccer/football in the Sounders game where it might have been a penalty but when a player is trying so desperately hard to sell it, it makes the referees job so incredibly difficult to know what is real. If acting and selling fouls worked their way out of the game the refs would be more inclined to give borderline cases like that

      We're stretching 'clear and obvious' just way too far when one camera angle shows the ball behind a hand, no discernable change in spin or trajectory, and no instinctive reaction from the player that often gives away an inadvertent touch. If there was another camera angle showing the touch, I would be more comfortable with this call, but to me this looks like the VAR crew assumed a touch with no evidence, one which, if it even happened, had only the tiniest effect on the path the ball took and was clearly non-deliberate.

    Yet another week showing that MLS owners need to get more cameras in the stadiums. I know they want to be cheap and aren't going to pay for automated offsides and goal line tech, but at least get more and better cameras so we're playing less of the "well it probably was, but we don't have a good camera angle" game.

    • @johnmcgimpsey1825
      @johnmcgimpsey1825 Месяц назад +1

      I'd like to see more cameras as well, but I just don't see the ROI. MLS owners are in the entertainment business, and unless the additional cameras put butts in seats or sell more merch, I don't know how it pays for itself. There's certainly no guarantee that the very small number of extra correct decisions will affect those metrics, or even that any particular decision will benefit their franchise's outcome. I think the best shot may be in leveraging the 2026WC, where those venues will get semi-automated offside. (I don't see GLT in MLS ever - semi-automated offside should make that obsolete.)

    • @MrCho14
      @MrCho14 Месяц назад

      @@johnmcgimpsey1825 Not all owners are in the entertainment business. Fisher in San Jose is in the business of letting real owners spend money to make money for the league while he sits back and does just enough not to banned from ownership somehow. He's bled Oakland for 20 years and when that pot dried up he got a deal with Las Vegas. His teams are hardly entertaining.
      But, yeah, otherwise it's probably a decent assessment.

    I swear, the VAR is consistently asleep for Sounders games. That is easily one of the top 10 worst calls or no calls I have ever seen in any sport. There is zero justification for no penalty and no red card. I see a grab and a lunge and crunch straight into and through the back of the leg with no play on the ball.There is no other way to see it. That is a a potential leg breaking tackle and should have been an easy red card decision on the field.

  • @EddieScavone-oi7mf

    That was a clear pk in the Seattle game, and definitely not a handball in the Vancouver game, i don't see enough evidence that it is a handball for them to overturn the call on the field

    ATL player Gregerson curved his run away from the player who kicked the ball across him, he doesn't have to just let him get the ball back. Gregerson has position on the ball compared to other player, he simply stood his ground. Not even a foul.

      @@hountybunter1 I'm not so sure. The Atlanta players so much pushed him to the ground as put out his arm so that he couldn't cross back. The Montreal player knows he lost the ball so he probably has no real incentive to be strong and when the ball back he can just go down and complain. At that point the Atlanta player has the closest position on the ball and has a right to play the ball. This really seems like the referee is bailing out Montreal on this one.

      It has to be shoulder to shoulder AND making an attempt to play the ball. In this case, he just plays the man. It's a clear foul, and it does stop a promising attack, so it has to be a yellow.
