One of the best world national teams in the end of 90s! After they demolished Hungary with 12-1 in two games of World Cup 1998 play off qualifying round (first leg 7-1,second leg 5-0),a lot of football coaches and analysts talking about Yugoslavia is one of the 3-4 biggest favourites of the tournament! But unfortunately Mijatovic missed penalty in 1/8 finals against Netherlands, and that this misfortune may not be the only one
,Davids scores winning goal for Netherlands in stoppage time and Yugoslavia ended tournament.

With all the fanfare that came with Croatia doing so well in France '98, would it be reasonable to suggest that Yugoslavia underachieved? The spine of that team would still have been a substantial part of the great (lost) team of 1992: Stoijkovic, Savicevic, Mijatovic, Dukic, Mihajlović, Jugovic.

If Yugoslavia still existed today :
Jan Oblak - Aleksandar Kolarov, Stefan Savić, Dejan Lovren, Šime Vrsaljko - Sergej Milinković-Savić, Miralem Pjanić, Luka Modrić - Ivan Perišić, Dušan Tadić, Edin Džeko.

Samo zvučna imena ništa ne znače ako ne igraš i tako
Po talentu morali su od 30 bolje Resultate imat ali nemaju zato ništa od njih šta se tiče Nacionalnog dresa

Officially and technically it did, but for the most of us it was only Serbia + Montenegro (was renamed like that in 2003). It was sort of "fake Yugoslavia" without all other countries (Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia, Macedonia and Kosovo) that used to be in real former Yugoslavia.

Even FRY fans used to boo Yugoslav communist anthem and players never sang it. In Serbia nobody called the country by its official name. Even in 1998 almost everybody was mentioning their state as Serbia. Not FR Yugoslavia. United States didn't recognize FRY up to 2001 and maybe that the reason that the page "Federal republic of Yugoslavia" doesn't exist at Wikipedia and re link you to the page called "Serbia and Montenegro"
