American football & rugby have more differences than that. Both are tough sports, but the hits are a lot harder in American football, while rugby requires more cardio & the players need to be more well-rounded. The protective gear in American football is kind of a double edged sword; sure it protects the person being hit to a degree, but the person doing the hitting becomes a 300 lb battering ram that can hit at full speed.

I don't know what you have being watching but you have got it backwards because it's rugby players that get the concussion and come back to play from broken necks / limbs. Its rugby players that get on with it and take blow after blow but still keep going. If that's not the case how come there are Americans and people from different countries viewing the real man's sport of rugby for the first time and there reaction is they can't believe how brutal rugby is compared to nfl. Nfl is played by soft people imo and always will be. Rugby is a real man's sport and always will be.
