I got this laptop last month and I totally love it. Unlike the reviewer, I'm glad it doesn't have a discrete graphics card which would have added heat and a major hit to the battery. I'd rather run an eGPU at the desk if I wanted to play some games on it.
That's BS. There is a thing called Nvidia Optimus, which deactivates the GPU when not in use = no negative effects on battery and heat. Not having a dGPU and relie on the insanely weak iGPUs are a no go in 2018
@@dampflokfreund Obviously the heat and battery impact would be WHILE the dGPU was being used. Don't be such a dunce. And regardless of when it's used, it would add to the cost and size of the laptop. Since this isn't a gaming laptop, I prefer it without the dGPU. If that's what you have to have, then go get a Razer or whatever and stop shitting in Lenovo's kitty litter.
@@richarda3764 Then don't use the GPU and don't shit on people who expect more graphics performance in a 1500 dollar laptop than a GTX 460M, a laptop GPU from nearly ten years ago. Also a dGPU has way more user scenarios than just gaming lol
@@dampflokfreund As I said, even unused, the dGPU still adds to the cost, size, and weight of the laptop. This is a thin and lightweight laptop competing against others in the market all of which, at this size/cost point, also don't have a dGPU. Yeah, a dedicated graphics card is great for CAD, video editing, animation...which most people aren't going to want to do on this laptop.
Lenovo have surprised me this year. I'm using the Lenovo Ideapad 320s. I picked it up for cheap. I only bought it to be used as a second laptop but I've been very pleasantly surprised. The build quality feels amazing. The only thing Lenovo don't do great is screens. They're more than useable but they're underwhelming.
I also have the 320s and it's so much better than I thought it would be, given its price. The fact that it has an NVME ssd inside it as well was a very nice surprise. Just a simple laptop that does all the basics really well on the cheap
Totally agree! My son has a MAC and needed a regular computer. So after researching, I got him the new Ideapad S340. He got it Friday and loves it. My concern was the chassis was reported to be a plastic/carbon combination and I prefer aluminum. The top chassis IS aluminum and the bottom is the combo. It has the iCore 5, 8 gigs AND 256 NVME PCIe SSD in it! For under $500, it's an amazing machine. No 'bells & whistles' per se, but does everything it needs to and does it fantastically! He loves the keyboard--says it's far better than his MAC.

Nice review. Thanks. For whatever reason, I think yoga 910 has a more premium feeling than this latest c930 dark grey. I think maybe because of the unimetal body and unique watchband hinge design. But of course c930 has more power than it. And it solves the sound position problem. I think the gold version indeed has a more premium looking than the dark grey one because gold version has a metal feeling. But I agree that c930 dark grey version has a modern and minimalism look.
I had the 900 and cracked the screen. I must admit, I miss that watchband hinge...it was just premium. However, this machine does blow my 900 out of the water in every way possible. I have the Iron Grey (only had the choice between it and mica) and it grew on me a lot. I have a vinyl cover on it to protect it and just got a hard shell case for it. I'm thinking of removing the vinyl cover because I really like the iron grey.
Urgh, how come so few laptops include an SD card reader anymore :( SD card reader is a must have imo. I really like the minimalist design of the laptop, perhaps one of my favourites but it seems the hardware lets it down a bit.
Great review...well balanced. I have the Iron Grey and love it. If people do their research...patiently...they can get the 4K, 1TB, 16 gig model for about $1500. I got mine in early December for $1519 and it's well worth every penny!

I do know that I really liked the fan with the vents at the back, so the bottom of the device doesn't get hot! This was always a problem with the hubby's old laptop. That pen is SWEET, the speaker at the back, and the hinges too!!! Very impressive for every day use, in my opinion. Thank for the review!!!
Great 2-in-1. Only thing missing is a the Cat 16 LTE-A sim card slot. Hate carrying around a USB modem. Besides that it's fantastic. Love the privacy camera shutter 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you for the in-depth review. It helped nudge me towards my purchase of the C930. I tried and returned the Spectre 360 - it felt too rough for its price points (poor touchpad, fans always on, bug in the battery life, and the fingerprint sensor stopped being recognized after a windows update). The 4k C930 starts at a few hundred dollars more than the HP, but as all reviews noted, they run sales all the time, and I managed to grab one for the same price as the HP. I quite like the 4k display - bright & sharp - and unit is quiet until pushed, and even then, the fans produce a low key white noise. Overall, the C930 feels like a mature system, where all the parts and drivers work well together. Again, thanks for the great review.
Personally was deciding between this an the Huawei Matebook X Pro, but ultimately no regrets in choosing the Huawei, the kicker for Huawei is the screen and the bezels as well as the graphics and the 3:2 screen ratio. Lenovo does things well, it has the convertible feature but the screen just feels too 2015 for me.
@Windows Central Hi, Can it's speakers be compared with some of the best sounding small Bluetooth speakers like "JBL"/"Anker"/"Logitech" in terms of bass, richness & overall volume? Your reply will mean a lot. I was wondering if carrying a extra pair of B.T speakers is still worth it or not....
Lenovo has a community forum site that I am a part of. Although it's Lenovo supported, Lenovo is NOT part of the forum. On there, Lenovo support is not known as favorable but then again, the forum is 'issue based' so 100% of the posts have to do with something not working correctly or people not knowing HOW to do something correctly. That said, I have switched my family over to all Lenovo computers--I have the Ideapad S340, Yoga 730 (no graphic card), C930, (2) Yoga 730 WITH graphic card, Yoga 720, Yoga 3Pro and Yoga 900 (In order of purchase date, most recent first). The Yoga 3 Pro and 900 both had all their ports stop working for over a week and then came back. The 900 was EXTREMELY hot--to the point of being dangerous. The 720 does have a line at the very top but at the price we got it, we didn't care. Those are the only issues I've seen with my lenovos so I haven't needed customer support at all and therefore can't really say whether they are good or bad. However, 7 computers since Oct 2015 that ALL still work amazingly and not one need for customer support should say something about the brand...I would much prefer a working computer than to have to deal with their customer service and that's what Lenovo has provided me over the past several years.
Oh, I forgot--the one thing I DO NOT like on the C930 is lack of ports. They should have included more. The other thing I did not like about the 720 and 730's were how heavy they were--too much for me, but that's because I am disabled. IF I were to recommend one computer...bang for buck...I would say the 720. Excellent machine for the least $.
You've now tested both the C930 and the X1 Yoga. If you could pick between the two, what would be your preference? I purchase the C930 with the 4K, i7, 16 GB, & 512 option and it's a great machine but the matte screen option, better color gamut, brighter screen, better battery, a CPU that's allowed to run free, HDMI built in, legendary Thinkpad keyboard, etc. of the X1 Yoga has me wondering if I would prefer that machine over the C930. My local Best Buy doesn't, unfortunately, have one where I can go and test. If you had to make a choice between the two, what would you choose?
@@boom6121 I don't recall loud but it did get warm. It wasn't overly hot to where it would burn the skin but it would make your leg sweat if it was on bare skin. I wish I could remember more as I took the C930 back and purchased a Razor Blade Advanced 15" due to many limitations of the machine when I was using it as a Power User.

Hi all! I'm going to be purchasing the c930 later today but had a couple of questions. If anyone knows the answers, please feel free to respond. 1. I know this has a pen in the garage, but I didn't know there were different qualities to the pens. I'm wondering if I should be purchasing the other lenovo pen to use when writing or drawing. This video made it seem like the included pen is less than stellar. 2. I'm a freak about keeping my tech toys in pristine condition so I'm curious if there are any cases that can be used with this laptop? I was hunting on Amazon last week but only 2 options popped up and they didn't have the best reviews. I'd settle fof a skin which I imagine will help keep scratches to a minimum, but there were some skins that left a residue on the product. Has anyone used a skin or case with this and if so, can you point me in the right direction? Thank you so much!
Is this laptop good with not being too hot? Does the pen inside the slot drain battery life? Is this laptop better than the Lenovo yoga 730 2 in 1 15inch?
I've owned both this and the yoga 730 2 in 1 15. The C930 gets warm, but not hot. Thermals are good from a performance and physical contact perspective. The pen does charge using the laptop's battery, but it is a very large battery and the power draw of the pen in negligible. As for which is better, it depends what you need. it you need the more powerful graphics and larger screen in the 730 15, I'd recommend going with a different unit. My experience with the 730 was that there was extensive performance throttling that would drastically reduce the CPU speed while the video card was under load. The 730 also has poor battery life--about half as much as the C930 despite being larger with more room for a battery. If you want piece of mind and overall better quality, I'd say to wait for a sale and grab the c930. If you need better graphics performance later on you can pick up an external gpu.
How is this thing for use on like a bed or something? I've been looking at some Y-series processor laptops to replace my old one since I don't have to worry about fans or vents that way, but given the lack of bottom vents on the c930 I'm curious as to how well it can handle watching videos while placed on blankets or whatever. Do the fans turn on then, or can it stay quiet so I can actually do whatever in silence?
It's pretty quite even when watching movies. Should be fine in bed. It's good b/c with no fans slots on the bottom you don't have to worry about blocking them with a blanket.
@@WindowsCentral Thanks for the reply. Do the fans turn on though? Like say when you're streaming a 4k video, are the fans on at all? Or how quiet is "quiet?" Mostly asking because hearing a fan while listening to music or watching a video would be a tad annoying coming from a completely fanless laptop.
Can it handle multitasking like many browser tabs alongwith video on VLC and youtube and opening folders on your hard disk and also working on word. Plz need some help. couldn't decide to buy this or late 2018's HP Spectre 15 inch with almost same specification but major difference is that SPECTRE includes a graphic card .
@Doc Dreamer video playback is to damn good.. But i use one note continuously which gets it warm and lasts for about 5-6 hrs continuous screen on on suggested brightness.
The c930 is not available in India. You should have bought the older model, the 920, which is definitely better than the surface pro. The surface pro is overpriced for what it does.

Hi Dan! Are you at all concerned about Lenovo's prior indiscrections on things like Superfish etc? It's one thing that's giving me pause when looking at the thinkpad line (frankly everyone seems to love the Dell XPS 15 and my mum and wife both have Dells with no issue...). But I'm looking Lenovo's way too as I want a tank and not for gaming, just 3D (Blender) and video work (DaVinci Resolve)
Nope. Superfish was a bad decision, but they weren't TRYING to hack you - it was just flawed software. The only third-party app here? McAfee. Just uninstall it. If it really bothers you you can clean install Windows 10. But that 4k model? We bought, I use everyday.
Thanks Dan. With everything being the same the X1 Extreme with 3 year onsite, accident, international, battery, and tech install is about $228 CAD more than the Dell XPS 15 and I think it's worth the little bit extra. I can hear my credit card weeping... :)
I have it. Can share some thoughts : rather the same as C930 for screen : just "okay" nothing extra. Battery life is really poor and that's what makes the S730 a difficult purchase to make : around 4hours life battery
So I've been looking for a laptop for RUclips Netflix and some random rocket league. It was between this and the Huawei with the mx150. But I decided to go for the c930 because of the tablet mode. Wow I honestly am always in tablet mode more then anything lol and the screen is beautiful for movies and shows don't know why people like those other square screens
Kevin, did you get the 4k or HD version? I was trying to decide between this and Microsoft Surface Pro 6 for Steam Gaming/Surfing and Media. Thanks for your help! :)
William Griffiths I got the 1080p version. 4K is pretty pointless at that size. RUclips plays 4K videos on the browser so it looks extra sharp. I would only go 4K if you have a lot of 4K movies if not. Not worth it
It would be nice if you slowed your speed of speech. It really does sound like you are in a hurry somehow, where i prefer videos that have a moderate speed of speech. They are a bit more relaxed to listen to......
I also have the 4k 16GB model and use mine for Corel Painter. I get 4 hours battery from full if I'm lucky. And it gets VERY hot (monitor reads 90c CPU) to the touch around the chin. I expected a little more for £1500 tbh....
@@mydogeatspuke LOL Something is wrong with your model's then... I got the 1080p with 16gb ram and I get 14-15 hours of watching movies downloaded on my laptop...

@@dylanweise4802 That seems unlikely when they offer "up to 9 hours." The 4k version is known to get hot (it has the i7 and most users undervolt it) and have a short battery life of around 4 hours. Such is owning an ultrabook.
It's not. I actually returned my 15 inch Yoga 730 because the BIOS had a power throttling issue where the cpu would drop down to .4 ghz while using the GTX1050 chip. It also has inferior build quality, significantly inferior battery life, and inferior audio. I tried the 730 13 inch after the BIOS update failed to fix the throttling issue on the 15 in and ended up returning 2 of them because of screen issues. Budget 2-in-1's tend to have a significant amount of issues--either design flaws where corners were cut to bring down the price or QC issues.
I read someone commented on another video where he bought the gem cut spectre and returned it as the build feels a little..not very solid? As if it would bend if you type on it for some time. What's the right word for that, but I hope you get what I mean. So he returned the spectre and got a Yoga C930 which feels solid and sturdier and he's happy with the performance so far.

The pen comes out really easily when you press it ... it wasn't designed to be pulled ...
@@KungFuIsland alright thank you for the details
In laptop mode doesn't the keyboard get scratches?
If you could combine this with the Asus UX333FA then you'd have one incredible laptop.
Does it support gaming?
amazing content good keep it up
How is this thing for use on like a bed or something?
Or how quiet is "quiet?"
Mostly asking because hearing a fan while listening to music or watching a video would be a tad annoying coming from a completely fanless laptop.
When will we see a full review of HP Spectre x360 15" with the new Gem Cut Design?
When they send us one to review! Hopefully this month.
@@WindowsCentral Thank you for your reply
Great job sir 👍👍👍👍👍
Can you compare this with SP6 please? I'm in between!
I am a student and i have surface pro 6. It works great.. But the better life doesn't suit my day.. Should i have bought this one instead of Sp6?
@Doc Dreamer video playback is to damn good.. But i use one note continuously which gets it warm and lasts for about 5-6 hrs continuous screen on on suggested brightness.
The c930 is not available in India. You should have bought the older model, the 920, which is definitely better than the surface pro. The surface pro is overpriced for what it does.
@@AtomAnt1 neither was Sp6.. I got it from us
What is the max brightness for the 4K model?

500 Nits!
Are you able to upgrade the VRAM on the lenovo yoga c930?
the VRAM is shared with the system RAM as it uses an Intel graphics chip, so no. You also can't alter the VRAM with a dedicated graphics chip.
Good video as usual but you need to say less "actually"..
If I ever again want to buy a laptop whose battery goes from 80% to 0% in 1 minute, I'll definitely buy a lenovo.
Does "Thunderbolt 3 " really work ? I found problem that lenovo might fraud us because it not detect by any Thudnerbolt controller manager !
So it might be just USB Type-C 3.0 it will never support External GPU or 40Gbps transfer data speed rate.

Please take a look at here and may you confirm this with us and push this issue to Lenovo !
Hii I m from India and I want to buy but confused as I don't know about warrenty issues here in India.... If u can help in this plss let me know... Happy new year
The c930 is not available in India.
Hello guys!
I am a great fan of yours for quiet a while!
Happy Holidays!
Please recommend to me what is the best laptop computer to buy it at the beginning of the year 2019!
I hesitate between HP Spectre Folio 15 ", DELL 15" XPS 9570 or LENOVO C930 YOGA 13,9 " (all being 2 in 1; detachable; with RAM 16 GB; ROM 1 TB, or ROM 256 GB or rather ROM 512 GB or else).
If you have another brand and configuration suggestion please do feel free to recommend it to me!
I am ready to hear and accept all the best proposals of yours!
Beginning from year 2009 I use HP 4710s 17 " RAM 2 GB, ROM 320 GB!
Now I want to replace it and buy new excellent laptop computer like that one!
Also, I am ready to wait for better period of the year for getting better price, hence I am ready to hear from you all your great proposals.
Anyway, thanks a million in advance!
Best regards,
Dragan Nikolovski
Hi friend, would it be possible to share this wallpaper that you are using?
great job. thank you
Could you please recommend a Laptop to edit videos. Under $1400 US
MacBook Pro. Or razer laptop from last year. Or buy a ASUS zepherus gaming laptop with a gtx 1070 and edit like a champ.
What app are you using in 10:45 mark thanks
Is it also good for gaming?
Is the drawing capability good enough for comic/illustration artist?
Get a Bamboo Ink pen and I'd say yes, but honestly, not an artist here. Wacom is good stuff though.
No LTE available/upgradable (even not to be expected in the near future)?!
Would you recommend that "over" the XPS 9570 (I had read XPS had better battery life though the i9 option was not a necessary upgrade...)
Thanks Dan. With everything being the same the X1 Extreme with 3 year onsite, accident, international, battery, and tech install is about $228 CAD more than the Dell XPS 15 and I think it's worth the little bit extra. I can hear my credit card weeping... :)
Can you do digital modelling like solidworks work on this laptop?
I can run solid on my 10 year old desktop, don't see why this guy couldn't. Unless you plan on Makin 1000 part assembly.
Can u share the link for the wallpaper?
C930 vs X1 yoga?
i wish i will get this one day
Can i have the link of that wallpaper?
" that's not cheap" lulz pretty sure that hits apple macbook air users so badly! '😂
Is there any chanse that you review the lenovo yoga s730 ?
Thank you
I have it. Can share some thoughts : rather the same as C930 for screen : just "okay" nothing extra. Battery life is really poor and that's what makes the S730 a difficult purchase to make : around 4hours life battery
When is the hp gem cut 15" review coming ?
Soon as HP sends it for review, likely after CES.
@@WindowsCentral will there be any new releases during ces ?
So I've been looking for a laptop for RUclips Netflix and some random rocket league.
It was between this and the Huawei with the mx150. But I decided to go for the c930 because of the tablet mode. Wow I honestly am always in tablet mode more then anything lol and the screen is beautiful for movies and shows don't know why people like those other square screens
Hi Kelvin
I was wondering, does the pc get hot og loud?
@@boom6121 not at all, but does get hot while charging even if just browsing
@@kjrayo18 Thx for answering :)
You can slow it down in settings.
Way brighter than MacBook Air

Got it 2 months ago, the 4K 16G RAM. The sound is amazing, great build quality. The battery is pathetic though.
@@dylanweise4802 - They are using the 4k version
@@YoungDen I know but 1080p verison get's 9-10 more hours.. Surely it's not that big of a jump..
Keep in mind if that's actually how much BL you get, you are running at 4k with dolby vision etc, that chews the battery to pieces.. So 4 hours at 4k is pretty good when I think about it
@@dylanweise4802 That seems unlikely when they offer "up to 9 hours." The 4k version is known to get hot (it has the i7 and most users undervolt it) and have a short battery life of around 4 hours. Such is owning an ultrabook.
Yoga 730 is 800 CAD, thus like 5-600 USD hard better value, with dedicated GPU
The screen looks like it doesn’t get too bright.
When I came in, I really thought that it’s the Ironman who is presenting haha
Thanks
This or HP Spectre x360 (late 2018) gem cut?
I read someone commented on another video where he bought the gem cut spectre and returned it as the build feels a little..not very solid? As if it would bend if you type on it for some time. What's the right word for that, but I hope you get what I mean. So he returned the spectre and got a Yoga C930 which feels solid and sturdier and he's happy with the performance so far.
