    Great video with excellent examples! One thing worth noting about the harmonic minor scale is that you seldom hear scalewise movement between the minor sixth and major seventh. Rather, they tend to resolve to the fifth and the tonic, respectively.

    Once again an amazing lesson, Wally. It has really helped bridge those last 45 years of not playing making it come bavk really quickly. Not quite like riding a bicycle, but my wife says I can stp using headphones on my AE-20!

    Thinking about trying the saxophone but I don’t have one yet but I played instruments all my life like flute and guitar and piano and percussion, including Marimba, And I just love the way that the saxophone is so expressive on these blues and jazz scales☃️

      The sax has similar fingering to the flute - you shouldn’t have any trouble converting. I played a flute for many years before converting to sax. It’s a wonderful instrument.

    • @kimballard4479
      @kimballard4479 Год назад +1

      @@AnthonyDavidMatthews i’ve heard that the fingering is similar to the flute but I just never really got a very good opportunity to switch to Sax. I’ve always wanted to play melody line. I’ve been a percussionist for many years now but everything is packed up in storage since my mom died & our home was sold. I brought a few of my drums here to this hotel but it sure would be nice to just riff on a saxophone like you’re doing😍 and I really like the way that you have formatted your channel to actually play the lines. It’s very inspirational and thanks for replying to me!!

    1st 5 seconds another very beautiful (and very interesting) line . Dr W.. I'm pleading "overly guilty of opining" especially on/about dims.. this should finally have me "well and truly" sorted out ...MAKES SOOOO MUCH SENSE now as Parallel minor "as "heard" sense" (Bebop motions are soooo crazy cool!).. just seeing this tenor bottom line ( as both b5/ b9 A (Eb Bb are out))) then..at DV7 (C# and Eb are out) as G has Bb and C# are out... but what really helps me hearing it (IS hearing you playing it) AND SEEING the "metronomic aligning" of the down beat OR upbeat..as ins or outs... Thank you again .. and again.. and again... and again ... and again ...and again !! (nearly 2 years since Ive 1st discovered you... and now I can finally START learning properly (and maybe even submit some exam etudes ! ie..finally crawl out the the Hitchcock Rabbithole ! (which Ive enjoyed immensely( I really adore his etudes.. and they have helped me learn the qwerty and sidekey pathways) I can see this lesson is inline and supporting the Blues Walk module (Ive had "focus issues" and horn issues (now rectified) so..truly off and running now ( maybe what has occurred (osmosis).. is that Ive learned to read and track the music without utter confusion (this lesson is proof of that) and can more easily line up the sound samples.. (and now I know the modules I can "really focus in on" ( as my tenor G and D Blues are fairly tidy (and have taught me to hear Eb and
    Bb as b6) the several youtubes youve recently posted have been extremely beneficial to my progressing ( ie.. 12 major scales in 11.2 seconds... A Dorian segment chain link practice (up to 9 and down) and this one above ( I again apologise.. for wasting your precious time) .. but yes.. very happy practicing indeed.. did I remember to thank you ?

    Dr. Wally That was a great video! I liked playing along with the video. I’m going come back to the video after a few days, then come back and see if I can internalize the licks by playing them by ear. Does that make sense?
