Great video with excellent examples! One thing worth noting about the harmonic minor scale is that you seldom hear scalewise movement between the minor sixth and major seventh. Rather, they tend to resolve to the fifth and the tonic, respectively.
@Saxophone Academy may I just say thank you for the classy and professional way you present your videos. You're videos are mixed and engineered well. You're set is clean. You look clean. You're speaking clearly. It's simple and cool!
Thanks so much, Dr. Wally! You’re the first instructor to make clear the full value of the harmonic minor scale. The play-alongs are very helpful! Much appreciated.
Once again an amazing lesson, Wally. It has really helped bridge those last 45 years of not playing making it come bavk really quickly. Not quite like riding a bicycle, but my wife says I can stp using headphones on my AE-20!
Thinking about trying the saxophone but I don’t have one yet but I played instruments all my life like flute and guitar and piano and percussion, including Marimba, And I just love the way that the saxophone is so expressive on these blues and jazz scales☃️
The sax has similar fingering to the flute - you shouldn’t have any trouble converting. I played a flute for many years before converting to sax. It’s a wonderful instrument.
@@AnthonyDavidMatthews i’ve heard that the fingering is similar to the flute but I just never really got a very good opportunity to switch to Sax. I’ve always wanted to play melody line. I’ve been a percussionist for many years now but everything is packed up in storage since my mom died & our home was sold. I brought a few of my drums here to this hotel but it sure would be nice to just riff on a saxophone like you’re doing😍 and I really like the way that you have formatted your channel to actually play the lines. It’s very inspirational and thanks for replying to me!!
1st 5 seconds another very beautiful (and very interesting) line . Dr W.. I'm pleading "overly guilty of opining" especially on/about dims.. this should finally have me "well and truly" sorted out ...MAKES SOOOO MUCH SENSE now as Parallel minor "as "heard" sense" (Bebop motions are soooo crazy cool!).. just seeing this tenor bottom line ( as both b5/ b9 A (Eb Bb are out))) then..at DV7 (C# and Eb are out) as G has Bb and C# are out... but what really helps me hearing it (IS hearing you playing it) AND SEEING the "metronomic aligning" of the down beat OR upbeat..as ins or outs... Rhagorol! (= 'excellent in Welsh) from Wales, I've understood the harmonic minor and its role for years but intellectually. This is so helpful to getting the feel.
e^6?!? Never thought I'd see scientific notation here. Now one part of me sees 10^6 (like on Google calculator), but the mathematician in me can't help but see the number e there...
Dr. Wally That was a great video! I liked playing along with the video. I’m going come back to the video after a few days, then come back and see if I can internalize the licks by playing them by ear. Does that make sense?
Hi Dr Wally, I know I am an old bloke but what I would like to do is download those exercises PDF to get them up to speed slowly and correctly before I play along on my desk top computer.. I keep hearing download the lesson but where do I click to do that if it is possible.?
Martin.. they are all at the "go practice " (left side side column (pay site) open any module and ALL the downloads are available ( but several sheets are also available on the free youtube clicks
Many Thanks Dr. Wallace ! ! Your lesson on minor harmonic progressions was very helpful and easy to understand. Much appreciated🎷🎷🎷.
Awesome! Man, I wish I had this technology when I was young!
Now playing minor has become major for me :) thanks Dr. Wally
I majorly happy at even this minor progress!

From one doc to another, had I had lessons like this I may not have become a psychologist
David....how does that make you feel?

Excellent! Please say hello to your instructor for me :)

Thank you e^6! The play along is so useful (and fun).
So glad it's helpful! Now you've got me stressed, what's a e^6 chord???!!!

That absolutely makes sense, and sounds like a good plan!
Hey, Doctrine, how/where can I get the sheet music for the II V examples you showing & playing?
great lesson, thank you, how can we get the pdf
Afraid I keep this .pdf and monthly study packets as a perk for my private studio. All the notes are on the screen though!
You motivator free speech music .
