- It's maple syrup making season! Most folks who live in the north and have property probably love maple syrup season, but where we live, not to many folks know you can still make maple syrup in the south!! We live in the mountains of North Carolina at 3000 feet and we have freezing temps and days in 40s and 50s in February. We also have maple trees! So let's see if you can make maple syrup in the south!

Here in the South It's actually more feasible to use a sweet gum tree.
I live in the mountains of wnc, no sweet gum here. I also make walnut syrup.
I have silver and red maple trees, also black walnut trees, on my property outside of Murphy North Carolina. My problem is getting up there during tapping season. I live in central Florida. I really would like to try tapping trees. 73
do you need help with that cause that sounds quite fun!
this was cool to watch thanks for sharing
Thanks! Still making some this week!!
How much syrup did you end up making? I’m from Burnsville and just started tapping a few years ago on a small scale. Love the video
Man we have a little before the sap flows with our coldest weekend just being this past one. You should be able to get a decent amount on some really warm afternoon days.
Yes! I’m going to harvest for about 2 weeks. Every day when I get home from work I put the baby boy on my back and go collect sap. I get about 2.5 gallons from 5 trees, but one isn’t really giving any sap. I think I could eventually have at least 20 trees tapped, maybe next year? Makes me want to get a side by side even more! Slowly saving up!
What type of maple is it? Bigtooth?
Mainly sugar and silver on my property, I’m at 3000 feet elevation
