They had modems for it. The internet isn't new, but email is pretty basic when it's just text without are the other stuff in the background

@@salsamancer It would only work with old standards such as POP3 (I mean, you could send and receive email on Microsoft DOS using POP3). It might work with STMP, but it would absolutely never work with IMAP, Microsoft Exchange, or MAPI (i.e. any modern standard).

The show is set somewhere in the 2003 to 2018 range yet is only like 2 years total passage of time. That's a lot of timeslip season to season to account for constantly updating internet culture.
