For all of those hating on the remix version here are the facts:
The original song (this one), was remixed by the German Dj Felix Jaehn, a collabration with OMI and Ultra Music.
So even in the Remix Song, OMI is the real guy as shown with his name as the first thing in the video's title.
So yeah, it's a win/win situation for OMI.

Both are different and pretty good irrespective of each other. The original is more of a romantic song, whereas the remix has a summer twist to it.

Yes, I heard the remix first and for years the original never reached me until now... but:
1) I actually like this version more if I'm being honest
2) it has stronger reggae vibe and I know that's just always been harder to sell worldwide
3) if you think about it, the remix just has more trumpet and is slightly faster. That's it. A good DJ did a good job keeping it in spirit of the original but made it more appealing to wider audience...
I'm not surprised remixed version became more popular and blew up high on so many charts back then...
