I love John Mayer's ability to sing about things that are sad without making the song depressing. So many amazing song writers don't manage to make sad music understanding, rather than depressing. But John Mayer's lyrics yes, are sad, but there is no self pity there, he is simply telling it how it is, to make sense of it, and so listening to his music when you are sad makes you feel better, because it brings peace. Whenever I am upset or anxious, I listed to John Mayer, it is like a big hug.
Agree. For example Sam Smith makes me automatically depressed can't listen to that.

Wow, this is wild, based on the tim in I wrote this when I was suuuuuuuper depressed and wanted to die. I haven't listened to John Mayer in years (saw him live and it ruined his music for me, unfortunately) now I am no longer insanely depressed, but I still have a preference for sad lyrics so I mostly listen to BTS since they are socially critical emos dressing up as kpop to trick people to listen to songs about the economy and mental health.
When you listen & cry but then listen and not cry....you know you are healed. My favorite John song.

The lyrics probably apply to a large percentage of couples. I used to think all my problems, romantic or otherwise ,were so unique to me. Now I feel like most of my problems are almost universal.

i didn't know he sang this and when i found out all i could think was... John Mayer is freakin' awesome.
First time hearing this today. Very pleasant. The instruments, vocals seem perfect. I don't get exactly what he is saying but I can imagine and it still feels like a good song. I like his reference to God twice and I am still putting my faith in him and his son Jesus. I pray if you haven't learned about Jesus that a missionary will enter your life so you can learn He is a love that feels as strong as this song.
