I lived there in the seventies, performing in bands, like the Troupadores,in the Gold Coast Hotel, the Chevron and the Playroom.I drove down the Gold Coast Hwy last July for some nostalgia and apart from the traffic crawl,it felt like a different country...the old Surfers Paradise had disappeared under hi-rise concrete and I couldn't wait to get past,to preserve my good memories of living in that area.
The Gold Coast Hotel , Burleigh , Paul & Ann Watt , 1 of only 2 Freehold Hotel's on the whole Goldy. That two man band in their Hotel lounge primed everyone before the Playroom finished them. You're correct , another Planet
Seeing the old Chevron and Lido signs brought a long sigh. Tenpin bowling at basement level as a kid; the moving Coppertone sign with the spaniel grabbing at a bikini bottom; my first beer ever in the Birdwatcher's Bar when I was 13; meeting friends in the Skyline lounge or at the Broadie in my late teens; my first job, waiting tables in Olivia's restaurant with the pink FX Holden in the roof; picking up tourist lovelies at the Paradise Centre waterslides; late night or early morning toasted ham, pineapple and cheese fingers with a cappuccino at the original Charlie's; live rock concerts at Bombay Rock; clubbing at The Penthouses or Melba's; time spent wandering through the arcades finding weird little businesses surviving somehow. Very lucky to have known Surfers Paradise well from the mid 60s to the early 80s. I wish I'd filmed it. Thanks for the blast.
There was a sign of the KIMDO restaurant which was owed by one of my friends parents when we went to surfers paradise state school, and it was the best Chinese food on the coast in the early 70s.
Xmas 1965 to 1972 drove from Cronulla every year to Goldcoast as far as Maroochydore !! With my mum dad brother Gary , I even remember the car ferry to cross tweed river tumbulgan bridge is there now ,
I holidayed on the GC in the 70s when I was a child and we moved here in 83 when I was a teenager. I couldn’t of asked for a better place to grow up! It’s still a place I love but developers have taken down so many iconic places I once enjoyed. I suppose ‘that’s progress’!
Thanks for sharing . from Sydney NSW Memories : ) I visited the Tweed & Coolangatta Border in it's Tacky Glorious in 1981. Flown the the Gold Coast many times. Damn Shame Really. So many Motel's were replaced by Skyrise Units/Apartment's. Not to mention blocking the ' Beach , the Coastline of Sun.'
Hi, this is the City of Gold Coast Video Production Team - we love this video and were wondering if you'd be happy for us to showcase parts of it in a (non-commercial) presentation and credit it accordingly? Look forward to hearing from you.
I dont think he will freely agree to it without paying a quid. Medias charge a fortune if you asked them. So, pay the fellow a fair amount of money, at least half of what the Media would ask. Otherwise this video is not for sale and remains as the sole copyrights of the owner.
It was a fantastic era to go to the Gold Coast, low crime or juvenile crime/violence . Trim girls& guys, no tats ,fillers, or steroids .Just fun times.

Having lived in this city all my life and still to this day! It’s so nice to see the old photos of how Gold Coast looked like
There was a sign of the KIMDO restaurant which was owed by one of my friends parents when we went to surfers paradise state school, and it was the best Chinese food on the coast in the early 70s.
I hear from the locals who grew up here how much the joint has changed but it's nice to actually see it visually, thanks!

Wow I saw 3 or 4 cars in this video that were not HOLDENS amazing, so everyone didn't literally drive HOLDENS back then, just mostly 👍😎
There’s a 300sl gullwing Mercedes in one of those photos that’s probably worth $5m now
@@paulsimpson8990 My jaw dropped when I saw that. Wonder what came of it. yes worth millions
Bet everyone wishes they bought as much costal land as possible back then 😊
Looks gay as hell. They probably only had iPhone 2 or 3 back then with slow WiFi
