Dick Van Dyke is a world treasure. Still going, into his 90s. When he does trip over that final ottoman in the sky, those who remain will have only the pleasure of watching his many great performances for the rest of time.

Dick is a happy face inside and out which is why he is still alive and well. Yes he's had a dark time but he pulled through it with that irrepressible love of life and enjoying himself, which in these horrible times we all need a little bit of what he has in spades.
This is fantastic, whimsical and inventive, I must watch the whole film, I love drawing the smiley and frowny faces on screen, and the shadow happy Janet Leigh. But no wonder she's frowning, she's just escaped Anthony Perkins, obviously!

There now sits a RUclips a reprise of his exact performance of this number done live for the Ed Sullivan Show. Unfortunately its a comment- free clip. So I am left to write what I saw, there over here. It showcases all the gifts that made Van Dyke a true genius. He sings well enough, and he is more a hoofer than a classical dancer but as a physical comedian and actor, there is no man better!. The way he angles his body and uses his trunk arms and legs as he dances, the plasticity of his face and the comedic timing are perfection. He squeezes every ounce of potential for humor that anyone can envision. Just brilliant .

What a great question. There is definitely something beyond the death of the body. I don't know positively what that might be. I suspect it could be transpersonal, meaning that the personality we have in this life is no longer a limitation, as we move onto another level. People who have used psychedelics might have had foreshadowings of that. BTW, I do not have experience with drugs. //

What a lovely performance. You would never guess that Dick Van Dyke didn’t like doing this film. He felt like the musical had been butchered and turned into a vehicle to further Anne Margaret’s career (she was the directors mistress as the time). And he didn’t exactly find working with Janet Leigh easy either, since she couldn’t sing or dance. But you wouldn’t get any of that from his performance, true professional.

Easy to see here why Van Dyke was perfect for Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Did Dick Van Dyke invent the first emoji? Discuss. The film version of Bye Bye Birdie, while featuring the great Ann-Margret, was a strange rehashing of a perfectly good Broadway play.

I do like Janet Leigh very much, but it was nevertheless so very wrong that Chita did not get to bring her role to the screen. It must have been weird for her, watching the movie, seeing how hard they worked to make Janet look like Chita. I guess Dick Van Dyke, et al., were not considered big enough 'names' for the movie, without someone else with some already established star power, like Janet Leigh. She does a nice job, anyway, as I recall. But how I'd have loved to have Chita's Rosie preserved for the ages.
Also, some nice new lyrics for the movie (I think so, anyway; in any case, the song's context was changed, so he was no longer singing this with/to Conrad Birdie fans.

I agree! Maybe not the most notorious case of Hollywood passing over the actors who created a part on Broadway, but certainly, in retrospect, an obvious one. At least Audrey Hepburn acted Eliza Doolittle well-she just wasn't up to the vocal demands.
