I am also a descendent of Mary Slattery and William Weeks. I must get over to Ireland one day to fully appreciate her experience. There's a lovey memorial to the Famine Orphans in Hyde Park in Sydney which I visit regularly. It's funny Kerry talked about the Irish-Australian character because I always feel it is a strong part of my personality.

I am also a descendent of Mary and William. There must be thousands of us in Australia by now. Watching this always brings tears to my eyes. To think what Mary, a famine victim, and William, a convict transported in chains to the end of the earth, went through to eventually meet and create all of us is amazing. I for one am very, very thankful.

Hi Anne Maree, sorry, I've only seen this message. Lovely to hear from you. Mary has become somewhat of a local celeb here in Kilkenny as we have been telling the story of the Orphan girls to many who have a lot of interest in the survivors of the famine in Kilkenny. We would love to see you in Kilkenny when you are able to come. Keep in touch.

@@marionacreman757 thanks for your reply. I would love to visit Ireland, such a long way from Australia and so many barriers at the moment. I just finished watching Adrian Dunbar's Coastal Ireland on one of our local streaming services. and I cannot believe how beautiful the coast of Ireland is.
