I am 58 and the only male in my family to have MVP. I was diagnosed in 2005 with an echocardiogram. My symptoms are mild. Anxiety and panic attacks are common. They suck. I work out regularly. I don't drink or smoke. Heart palpitations are also common. Sometimes increases heart rate. Especially when I worry about something. But the anxiety attacks are the worst.

And we are going to blame it on your kidneys, your liver, sleep apnea, and whatever so you won't keep asking for our help. In the mean time they 'monetize you' by giving you pills, tests, scans, implants, and nights in the hospital to increase their profit on you.

It can. The mitral valve is connected to the walls of the left ventricle. When the walls of the left ventricle get larger and pulls the mitral valve out of shape and it will leak. So if you can do what you can to get your ventricle back in shape, diet and exercise, then it will pull your valve back into shape where it will seal.

The surgeon, cardiologist, and hospital gave me some but it was such a small amount for my pain it never would have been enough to help my pain. Also I wish someone would have told me all of the things I needed post surgery like shower chairs, bp monitor, self-help kits(amazon), a bidet because it really really really sucks when you try to wipe yourself, a bedside toilet, a urinal, the breather for your lungs (amazon), and more. And one last thing you will most definitely need a friend or family member to help you you cannot do this alone.

I was diagnosed with "borderline" MVP a year ago when I was having skipped heart beats, heart flutters, panic attacks, etc.
I'm a 26 year old male now. I used to body build since I was 15 up until I found out what I have. The symptoms didn't really come when I was working out. They came when I stopped working out. I am 6'2 225 lbs. I am big and muscular so I'm not sure how that affects the valve.
The doc said I Can work out long as I'm not holding my breath on heavy sets. Anyone else know?

"Watchful waiting" around until moderate mitral valve regurgitation is severe risking left ventricular overload? THAT IS THE LAST thing you want to do, especially in an older (78) patient with calcified leaflets but moderate stenosis. Repair's the way to go to preserve longevity and a pain free quality of life. SOONER, NOT LATER.
Tune up the decision tree. -- YOU CAN'T WAIT for the patient to be gasping for air flopping around like a flounder out of water-- waiting till something's REALLY broke or dead, imho.
