Yesterday I blasted my Congressman, my two Senators, and the President yet again with emails requesting their full support of aid to Ukraine.
Every week, I've been emailing them about Ukraine aid.
I know I'm only one voice, but if they get a huge number of emails from us, they pay attention.

It's 7:30 PM Friday, 4/19/2024, in the USA. We finally seem to have passed the biggest hurdle in the US Congress to getting aid to Ukraine. It has been a too-long struggle, but it now looks like we have finally done it. Slava Ukraini!
We cannot be complacent, we have to keep up the pressure to ensure that future aid packages from the US keep going through until Ukraine wins.

More Smoke and Mirrors for Ukraine aid. Only 13.8B of the US Bill is for military aid to Ukraine and will do abosulty nothing to help Ukraine. Just a stalling tactic till May 21st rolls around. Ukraine won't see a dime. Because the US treasury stated it won;t aprove anything for Ukraine after that.

The interesting thing about this Tu-22M3 Backfire being shot down, Denys, is that the production line for it closed in 1993 (Along with the Tu-95 Bear production line too) so no new Tu-22Ms can be built. Not unless Russia is willing to spend billions of rubles to build new production jigs and tooling to reopen the production line along with training new workers to operate that production line.
They can’t produce engines even if they could produce airframes again. It’s a moot conversation. Russia can’t produce a viable commercial airliner let alone a supersonic strategic bomber.
@@Therakus Indeed. These engines likely were made in Ukraine. A supplier kind of unwilling to ship to russia for the time being.
So many years old, lack of parts and now they are being used one or two times per week (sometimes multiple days). Russians said it had an engine malfunction, which it shouldn't surprise us. Probably there isn't any available replacement plane ready so the next few missile attacks they may be down a couple of missiles.
@@Therakus Would you elaborate on that, please, as I checked where the Tu-22M's engines are made and the Kuznetsov factory is in Russia (I'd understand if the engines were of Ukrainian origin).

Yeah it was a mistake for Ukraine to get rid of nukes but at that time with that economy, I highly doubt that Ukraine was able to maintain them back then.
Ukraine never owned any nukes to 'get rid of'. When the USSR collapsed, the soviet army and navy largely abandoned their posts and left everything behind, including ships, aircraft, and every kind of weapon from knives to nukes. They were obligated by the NPT to either return to Russia or surrender proliferated nuclear weapons for dismantling by an international team. Otherwise, Russia would have been authorized by the UNSC to use whatever force they deemed necessary to neutralize them, including tactical nukes or chemical weapons. Ukraine made a wise choice and got a lot in the deal.

Ukraine was a part of the USSR and a part of the original treaty. They became a member by accession when they gained independence and were recognized by the U.N..
Maybe you are not old enough to remember. Maybe you didn't have access to information or were not paying attention, but Ukraine came very close to not existing as an independent country.
Russia was OBLIGATED to take necessary steps to get the nukes back or have them neutralized before Ukraine could find a way to bypass the arming safeguards, and the other members (USA, UK, France, China) were to provide assistance to Russia if necessary. The USA, UK, France and China put a lot of pressure on Russia to take care of the problem and both USA and Russia were ready to order military strikes. There was literally serious talk at the time of Russia nuking Ukraine with the blessing of the other nuclear members if a deal could not be reached.

It's called a flat spin. Swept wing aircraft are somewhat prone to this form of LOC and pilots get lots of training to avoid it. In most such aircraft it is considered unrecoverable, the only option being for the crew to bail out.
From the video, it looks like both engines were on fire. The pilot tried to glide back to base, but those kind of planes aren't designed for that. While struggling to keep the nose up, he probably went into a spin.
