The Action 5 doesn‘t have a dedicated dive mode. As like it‘s predecessor you can save custom settings C1 to C5 - but now you can give it a symbol like the scubamask to it.
Just got the DJI Osmo Action 5 PRO and thanks for the simple and informative review! Although mainly a still shooter using my 1" sensor Canon G7X II in Fantasea housing since around 2016 I always envied the light easy traveling Action camera divers. So here I go in with teh DJI Osmo Action 5 PRO :)

Plus, I’m broke, so I’m sticking with this camera until it taps out! 😅 this beast keeps crushing it, dive after dive even though it isn’t the best/newest out there anymore.
Wow, the white balance at 3:36 on the hand for Action5 is scarily red. I guess that’s the downside of the extreme auto-balance that some of the new cameras have.

Ive been using go pro 12 but after seeing footage of the dji action 5 pro its a no brainer, thats what ill prefer to use, colors alone make the dji action 5 pro a clear winner to me

Can we directly take the camera inside water or should we take any precaution because my action 5 stopped working after a shot in pool for 30 seconds. I took it with cover provided and stick attached.
Used Panasonic and GoPro for diving over the last 10 years. Last month got an X4 and the difference is incredible. Rock sold stabilisation, good colour correction, and mind blowing angles you pick in post processing. The footage and stills are national geographic kind of level.
From past few years I am using Olympus Tough TG Tracker for my diving and is amazing camera....but is getting old, so - looking for the OSMO Action as potential replacement. I am still unsure that 5 is really worth to go over 4, but thanks for this video.
I have the Osmo 4, great camera, I highly recommend using a AOI 03 lens on the front when the camera is in the housing, take away all the distortion at edges and images are MUCH sharper.
I’ve done a similar comparison underwater and agree completely with this test result. DJI Osmo Action 5 is my choice too. (I only personally own a 4 at the moment). Nice work!
In the 4, you can use the zoom function whilst in the case. Furthermore, I’d you zoom in and save that as a preset setting, it saves all the other settings without the zoom in you preset. Would be good to be able to chose that underwater whilst in the case. 👍

Can you compare dii osmosis 5 vs insta 360 ace pro underwater with close up filming? I know the insta 360 ace pro struggles on up close focusing. I'm curious how the ddi would do.
i do have a gopro 7 and a 11, it does have downsides which is mainly its software and file transfer.. been looking for a replacment and do think the DJI is worth a try.. its while balance is epic

Hello! Question: I had a GoPro9 and now have an Osmo 5. I find that the white balance on the OSMO 5 is way too aggressive, especially where I dive (typically green water). I may have to disable the auto white balance. Do you have any experience with this?
What is the best feature of the OSMO 5 for underwater usage? Also, how easy is it to operate and not end up with videos of the sky or boat floor and dead battery while on a dive biat
I'm definitely going to order the Action 5. Been using Action 3 mounted on top of my full frame rig and this would be a great upgrade. I'm really looking forward to the low light feature and the depth censor.
Hello, I have the action 5 pro and am very interested into this UW mode that I saw but didn't test yet. Is it just a sticker on a preset mode or does it automatically apply a different color balance to up the red and lower the blue/green? Thanks!
Yes there is a difference. So at 02:00, it's really green and that it shot with standard video mode. Then at 04:10 you can see the colours are much more balanced, and that is shot specifically with the underwater mode. What specifically DJI is doing we don't know, but the colours are much better in underwater mode.
I'd probably try the DJI Osmo Action 5 at some point, has been diving gopro 12 and color grading the log footage - i think this is the best for getting the colors back. Really would like to see how is the log footage of the DJI 5 compared to the GoPro ones for editing and final results.

I thought the AcePro would have been a better choice then the Go3s. I have the X4 and really love it but for some shots the objects are too far away but did dome epic videos last summer. So was thinking of adding a more classic camera as it would be complementary.
4:48 you must perform all tests at various depths, not just 5m. Cameras will perform vastly different at 30m and it would be easier to pick the best performer without zooming in.
@@TsoorHartovSpearfishing The Depth sensor doesn't work once you place the camera inside the dive case. The OA5 can go to 20m without a case. A neat trick to get that data back if you do put in a case (and you are diving), the DJI app can connect to other sport apps like Garmin so it can take data from there. Like depths. So that'll also work for other sports, cycling etc.
I'm happy at the moment with my GoPro 11. I'm looking for a replacement, but until now not really found one - waiting for Osmo 5 and Ace 2 Pro to maybe take this place this year - GroPro 12 and 13 didn't feel like worth the upgrade... For me it is Snorkeling and Freediving and therefore Osmo 5 seems nice with 20m instead of "just" 10ish like the others. At the moment I always use the divecase with my GoPro - just to be shure
I like them all but the insta360 would probably be the best all-rounder for me (diving, biking, running, swimming, etc), although I’m sure that they would all work.
Wow thx very much for this video ! I have the Action 4 and will buy the 5. For me, i still detected a defect on the 4 which I hope will be corrected on the 5; when I'm in the sea, snorkeling, the quality is impressive but... From time to time, the color turns green, before recovering within 10 to 20 seconds... Which never happens on gopro. As a result, I have to modify the colors of these "moments" on my editing software. On the internet, they say it's because of the front sensor which constantly adapts, and which the gopro doesn't have. We have great quality underwater, better than GoPro, but from time to time, it sucks as explained... Too bad.
Well I have the GoPro 11 and the insta 360x3 dive mainly in Scotland with the GoPro I use video lights it works well . Insta 360x3 hmm it’s ok not the best for Scottish sea loch green waters a 2m vis. Now i have been thinking of the DJI action 5 has some cool features main one battery life seems to good to be true colour correction depth gauge and the bonus to dive without a case to 20m . For me for I would choose DJI action 5 I personally think its game over for GoPro . Once I can save up I will buy DJI will be a huge upgrade for my RUclips videos. Ps great content 👍

A 360 cam from insta would create a very cool new perspective for my diving but from your list i would definitely choose the DJI osmo action 5 pro. There is no competition...
I have been using a Sealife Micro HD and I am not happy with it after seeing this video. The images on the DJI look outstanding in comparison. Thats the one I need to get. The image quality from that camera was the best IMHO.
Insta360 X4 for me just because I want to capture some unique under water images from a 360 camera... but gee I'm impressed with the DJI Osmo Action 5.
@DIVEindotcom I haven't made up my mind just yet. I think for video either dji, ace pro or gopro will do a better job than a mobile phone. For photo I think is a great.
Since the family DJI Action 3 got drowned on a beach in Greece this summer (kids+tech=random results), I've been waiting for Action 5 Pro to be released to get a new family action camera. So definitely Dji Action 5 for me. Bonus points for compatibility with Action 3 battery and acessories, which I still have.
It's also waterproof 20m so a housing it's necessary and it's magnetic so much more stable when placed on top of certain tops. We find it to be a very rugged camera.
Currently it would be the Osmo Action 5 pro for me, but if the macro lens of GoPro could be snugged into the dive housing that could be a game changer for me…
At the moment i dont have any of the cameras. I would love to have the dji action 5 because in my opinion it shots the best videos. In the near future i like to go to 50 to 60 meters so for those dives the gopro would me more sustainable.
I prefer the look of the action 5 underwater and at night. Hero 13 in the daytime. It’s a shame the depth sensor isn’t giving consistent readings hopefully they fix
Thanks for the review. It seems very saturated with green tint, I was really hoping for some miracle given the hype and pro in the name :) A comparison with Action 4 will be super helpful whether or not an upgrade is warranted.
The green tint is from the regular video mode, and you can edit it post in the app. p. If you film with the undewater mode then the colors are much more balanced, like it is 03:17 with the fish.
@@DIVEindotcom I currently have a Hero 9. It's good to be honest, but you can tell it's now noticeably lagging behind the newer options. The battery life in particular (especially combined with fast charging) and the Osmo Action 5 is particularly appealing
For me its the DJI Action 5 camera i would use the most becouse its also for outside water good ,but when see the compairs from the 4 i think the Insta360 X4 is the bether one for under water ,was planning to buy in future a camera ,but stil saving >.>
A shame the depth sensor doesn't work if you put it into a dive housing to take it below 20 metres. It's great information for a freediver to have when reviewing footage for depth training and coaching, but 20 metres is not a huge deal to a freediver. Telemetry Overlay is still the best option for that sort of application, but it's expensive software and keeping the dive computer's data stream in sync with the video is quite the hassle. They'll still need to fix the data reliability issues though.

Sent my 5 back, yes 5 has screen improvements and duel microphone input, as for the video its self, I think the 4 is better and has a higher bit rate.

No, it's only without the housing that it can track your depth.

We didn't use a dive case in this video since it's waterproof to 20m. There is a dive case available through DJI.
I use OA3 for diving at the moment and I`m thinking about upgrading to OA5. Thanks for the video.

Dji action 5 pro - definitely is right camera for scuba. Im diving now with action 2 and its still good, but 5 - its from another planet.

The DJI Osmo Action 5 pro looks great, but the Insta360 go adds some versatility that is hard to pass up!
Thanks for the review. It seems very saturated with green tint, I was really hoping for some miracle given the hype and pro in the name :)
A comparison with Action 4 will be super helpful whether or not an upgrade is warranted.
The green tint is from the regular video mode, and you can edit it post in the app. p. If you film with the undewater mode then the colors are much more balanced, like it is 03:17 with the fish.

@@DIVEindotcom I currently have a Hero 9. It's good to be honest, but you can tell it's now noticeably lagging behind the newer options.
The battery life in particular (especially combined with fast charging) and the Osmo Action 5 is particularly appealing

For me its the DJI Action 5 camera i would use the most becouse its also for outside water good ,but when see the compairs from the 4 i think the Insta360 X4 is the bether one for under water ,was planning to buy in future a camera ,but stil saving >.>
A shame the depth sensor doesn't work if you put it into a dive housing to take it below 20 metres.
It's great information for a freediver to have when reviewing footage for depth training and coaching, but 20 metres is not a huge deal to a freediver. Telemetry Overlay is still the best option for that sort of application, but it's expensive software and keeping the dive computer's data stream in sync with the video is quite the hassle.
They'll still need to fix the data reliability issues though.
Dji Action 5 Pro - its working stable and records every moment. Nothing is more devastating when your cam crush during diving.
it's also waterproof to 20m without a housing so it's really nice not to have buy that like you do with other brands/models.

I am using a Go Pro but I may have to try a DJI 5.
