Jason, I love how you do slow shots of thing around the camp, like the close up of the wood pile, the dogs laying there. Make me feel like I’m sitting there around the fire an thinking on life. Great video, good thing you had all that wood. Thank you for sharing a great video. God bless you.

I really like your way of camping! There are some great bushcraft channels here and I really enjoy that kind of minimalistic life myself, with just a backpack and the nature. Sometimes it's great to just make your life easier and instead of spending ages sat down in the rain, rubbing a few sticks together to make fire, concentrate on enjoying the nature with a nice whiskey and some tunes over campfire. I did a 10 day trip with my friend to Lapland wilderness a few years back and it was one of the best times of my life. Spent part of the time in a cabin with few other friends, but half of the trip we just drove around in a Toyota Hilux, aimlessly wandering and setting up camp where we wanted. Sometimes we slept in the truck, sometimes in a tent. Hiking, fishing for grayling and trout on small rivers, cooking food and coffee on an open fire, but if we wanted we had tools and firewood in the truck. I'm currently living in Belgium and have not gone camping here yet. There's not many places you can go and set up camp, camping is mostly directed to allocated camping sites full of caravans, shop, bar and wifi. Nature can really mix it up for you. I have a favorite spot I go to in the morning place is full of possible photographs. I like the low hanging fog in a valley full of small houses. It's got many different aspects. Very cool. The viewer is always looking from above
Another great blend of photography, outdoorsmanship, the dogs, and life! Overlanding is an exploding area of interest and so many people like me are just getting started. You should do a video that incorporates basics of picking fire wood, where you can/can’t get it from. How to cut it down and then tips on chopping wood. I’ve tried it once or twice and it’s not as easy as you make it look. Thanks again for the great videos!
I’m new to your videos, but man it’s great to see a guy who loves the outdoors enough to document his camping outings. I love your gear and set up. Hope I can get mine close to this one day. Keep it up, loving it.
Photography can be so challenging sometimes. You can find a great composition like that pine tree, but you have to wait for the ideal conditions. A mix of fog and sunshine is my favorite condition to shoot in.
Finding good compositions can be difficult and then you also need good light or lack of depending on the composition, it was definitely worth hanging until the next afternoon, the lighting was way better. Thanks for the comment. Jason
Love it Jason. Having some blood pressure issues I swear your vids lower my BP more than the medications. Lol, please keep them coming. Love your dogs and where you live. ATB

We just took our wild camping trip of 2018 in Death Valley. We grabbed a bottle of Pendleton on the way down. We LOVE it and made a toast to you around the campfire. Thanks for the encouragement to Get Outside! Bend is 7 hours away, but we would be HAPPY to make the drive for a meet-up.

I found your channel by accident and I’ve been watching your videos flat out last few days, great video work and I like the blend of a bit of modern gear for a bit of comfort and keeping it simple and being in touch with the environment. Also I must commend you on replying to so many comments, I don’t think I’ve seen any other “you tuber” reply to as many comments as you, good commitment to your followers.
Clint, welcome to the channel. I am glad you like the fact that I try to respond as much as I can, but I have to admit the channel is getting to a point where I don't know how much longer I be able to do it, as it is I am trying to cram so much into a week especially since I try to post a camping video every week. I just returned from filming next weeks video and I have so many new comments I am feeling a bit overwhelmed. Jason
Primal Outdoors - Camping and Photography . I hear ya, I run my own business and have 2 young kids. You can’t be all things to everyone, maybe skim the comments and just reply to a couple or a post replying to a number or questions or comments. I get the feeling that you’ll find a happy place between staying in touch with the fans and furthering your business interests and that the people who follow you will continue to follow and post their support regardless of whether you reply to each and every one. Lastly Id like to say good on you for taking firewood with you on camping trips and for the care in setting up and dismantling of your fire pits, I camp a bit here in newzealand and when I lived in Australia and hate seeing the damage caused by irresponsible people. All the best
Great video Jason, I love Pine Mountain. Especially in the summer when the Observatory is open and you can look through their big telescope! It's cold up there in the summer nights, can't imagine how cold it was over New Years.Curious what Camera you are using when you had your "good camera" setup on top. It sure did a nice job too, and the audio in the wind sounded great.
All your episodes are great but this one ranks in the top 5. Photography, video, music and your commentary were excellent. I hope you get some good satisfaction putting these high quality productions out for us. Well done! 👍
Thanks John I was particularly happy with this one myself. I do enjoy putting them together, but hopefully it gets to a point that I don't have stress about it so much trying to cram everything into a week. Jason
I carry a Taurus PT 740 and the edc depends on what I am doing but I typically have a Leatherman and couple of lighters on me, cell phone, wallet basic stuff. Jason
Love your channel. You have captured some great scenery that makes America so beautiful. You get really out there in the boonies, so I was wondering, do you ever have any confrontations with aggressive wild animals?
I have had interactions with bears and cougars but for the most part they don't want anything to do with you and given the chance they will run away. Jason
I’m seeing how useful the CVT is especially because I also have 2 dogs, I first need to get the mount done for my truck but also make sure my kayak fits underneath the CVT without causing any issues. Although I’m not in Oregan I do have friends there that I may have to visit to get it installed.
Not sure if previous videos have addressed it but since you and many of your viewers are out in the woods alone it might help educated others if you dedicated a piece on wilderness first aid. Noticing that you use axes and saws it would be good to talk about supplies and strategies in the event of a mishap. Too many people go out in the woods with little to no first aid supplies and or knowledge.
I do have some first aid supplies with me, that I have put together based on what I truly believe I could take care of myself in the field. I am not qualified to be giving first aid advice so for most part I probably will avoid the subject. Jason
Pine Mtn was one of my easy one night camping trips just to get away. At the top near the Antennas have you seen the Cross or Plaque? It’s below the antennas in the boulders. Keep the cool Videos coming..
Jason, What would be a good camera for someone starting out in photography. Your videos have made me get into taking landscape photos on my iPhone, but I’d like to hear a real camera. My budget is on the low end of the spectrum no more than a couple hundred bucks.
Save your money Donny and get yourself into the $500 to $600 dollar bracket that way you can get a entry level dslr or mirroless camera with a crop sensor. These are still low budget cameras but you will really see a quality difference compared to your iphone and they will help you learn basics of photography. Jason
I really like your channel! The sound is very good. I can always hear and understand the audio, as I have a hearing problem. The videos are fantastic. Question though, are your photos for sale? If so where? Thanks for a very GOOD channel. Looking forward to future works.
Primal Outdoors - Camping and Photography... nice... YETI coolers are nice, I bought a 65, then thought... where's my food going to go after filling it up with my kids drinks and my beer. I returned it for a 105.
Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner! That morning shot turned out beautiful ! Have you ever used Mirror Lock Up when shooting? I've tried it several times and honestly I don't see enough difference to where it's worth messing with. Thanks for my nice "zen" music today!! It soothes me! LOL
Nice video, may I ask how you learned photography? Also, just curious what line of work your in ? I really like your slowmo video with the mellow music, draws one into the video. Nice!
I learned photography by watching tons of hours of RUclips tutorials and lots of practice. I have been in the IT industry for most of my life but recently I have been doing lots of different things (horse trimming, photography, RUclips, sewing and contract IT). Jason
I got roof tent mounted on f150 4x4 cross the bed like your how can stop and camp on way back from pilotcar runs i escort the western states and do alot rdv 1800 fur trade era but can stop camp off road i enjoy videos keep up good work.ken
Love this one, made me want to be next the fire too. Could almost smell the fire. On some of your videos there are bugs buzzing around the mic, I can literally feel it vibrate in my ear & instinctively brush it away. Weird, huh?!
I usually choose not to go above f11 to stay away from diffraction, if I do want more depth of field I stack, plus I wanted the primary focus to be on the rock. Just my way of shooting Jason
I'd be interested in your philosophy of composition. You do a really good job at it but your commentary seems to consist of stuff like: "I like these trees over here." or "I like the lake in the middle." You never seem to go beyond that altho your photographs transcend that kind of "mundane" commentary. What about compositional balance? What about tonal balance? What about the evocation of moment that you're trying to capture? Is it all just evocative with you without any sort of analytical rationale for the shot? I'd be curious to hear why you shoot what you shoot. You do landscapes so well, which, arguably, is the hardest form of photography. What's the photographic thought process going on? In any event, keep up the interesting work! Love it!
First I am very glad you like the photos, I find landscape photography extremely difficult especially the more I learn and the more I get a feel for what I desire in a shot. I am not formally educated on photography so there are a lot terms I just don't know, in fact I had to Google search "Tonal Balance" just so I could figure out what you were talking about, lol. I try to keep the photography segments in my videos pretty basic because there are lot of folks that watch the channel that just don't care because they are not into photography, plus to be honest I am not a very creative person, I am much more technically minded so I struggle with expressing myself in poetic way, so I just keep things quick and simple. Jason
I hate to be Mr. Safety with your first comment but just a tip, when starting a chainsaw, especially drop starting it without chaps, put the brake on. I'm not trying to take away from this fine video, I'm just parroting what I've been taught. I'm waiting to get my CVT bachelor right now. They sent one but it was damaged by the shipper. Can't wait to get out there.
I'm a 2 cycle mechanic at a lawnmower shop and my boss hates it when people drop start a saw. When we sell a saw we teach two ways 1. put the saw on the ground, step on the flat part of the rear handle with your right foot and put your left hand on the top of the forward handle and start with your right hand. 2. Put the rear handle between your legs above the knees, hold the front handle with your left hand start with your right hand or vise versa. Funny thing is we tell newbies to put the brake on when starting, then they bring it back because it doesn't work, they usually forget to take the brake off LOL. I'm still guilty of drop starting, I start so many I don't think about it.
Wally Twixter The rule I was taught at a chainsaw safety seminar was, if you can't stiff arm start it(with your arm straight), start it on the ground. Drop starting is always wrong. In this video he nearly stiff arm starts it, only a little drop motion. I'd just like to see the brake on and the chain pointed out infront of him. I can stiff arm start 26" saws but I still start bigger saws on the ground to lead by example.
Haha, you guys missed the worst part that was wrong, which I tried to hide a little in post production but it is still pretty noticeable and I figured it would be what everyone would catch me on. My chain was super loose, luckily I shut saw off right after I got this clip and noticed it before I put it to wood. I just put a new chain and tightened it the only thing I can think is there was some sawdust residue that built up behind the sprocket and once started the saw it broke loose. To your point I won't drop start it anymore (at least on video, haha ) ;) Jason
Ha, I was going to say something but figured Kenny was beating you up enough lol. Another tip when tightening the chain, with the bar bolts slightly loose pinch the chain between your fingers in the middle of the bar on the TOP and lift up on the chain, this will take the "slop" out of the bar, adjust to your desired tension and tighten the bar bolts while lifting up.
It was freezing up there that morning, funny thing was the next morning it was warm and sat up there quite awhile just enjoying the view and the sun. Jason
Did you learn about photography on your own , or did you take some classes ? Also , which camera would you suggest as a starter but something I won't grow out of too quickly ? What camera do you use ? LOL , sorry for all the questions.
Bryan, I taught myself by going to RUclips University. There are a lot of great choices in the way of a first time camera any of the crop sensor bodies by Canon, Nikon or Sony would be a great start. If you think you might be interested in video as well, then I think Canon might be the best starter option followed by Sony. With that said I have a Nikon D850. Jason

I’m seeing how useful the CVT is especially because I also have 2 dogs, I first need to get the mount done for my truck but also make sure my kayak fits underneath the CVT without causing any issues. Although I’m not in Oregan I do have friends there that I may have to visit to get it installed.
Nice momens as always 😊
Thank you
Jason
Not sure if previous videos have addressed it but since you and many of your viewers are out in the woods alone it might help educated others if you dedicated a piece on wilderness first aid. Noticing that you use axes and saws it would be good to talk about supplies and strategies in the event of a mishap. Too many people go out in the woods with little to no first aid supplies and or knowledge.
I do have some first aid supplies with me, that I have put together based on what I truly believe I could take care of myself in the field. I am not qualified to be giving first aid advice so for most part I probably will avoid the subject.

Pine Mtn was one of my easy one night camping trips just to get away. At the top near the Antennas have you seen the Cross or Plaque? It’s below the antennas in the boulders. Keep the cool Videos coming..
Good stuff and the live stream was on point as well.
Thanks Jon, it was a lot of fun we will have to do some more for sure.
Jason
Beautiful landscape. It seems the chainsaw has become a topic. Be safe brother.
Haha, if they only new what happens off camera. Thanks for watching Rick.
Jason
Loving the videos. What kind of camp table do you have?
Glad your enjoying the videos, the camp table is just a cheap folder I found at Walmart.
Jason
Man you have the slow stuff on lock! so good!
Candlebox for the win!
The stumpy tree shot turned out great btw...
Thank you Cameron
Jason
Where did you get the canopy you use? I want one for my van. I love your entire setup
I assume your talking about my tent or maybe the awning but I got both from CVT Cascadia Vehicle Tents.
Jason
Primal Outdoors - Camping and Photography thanks for the reply Jason. Keep up the great work
Jason,
What would be a good camera for someone starting out in photography.

I really like your channel! The sound is very good. I can always hear and understand the audio, as I have a hearing problem. The videos are fantastic. Question though, are your photos for sale? If so where? Thanks for a very GOOD channel. Looking forward to future works.
Really enjoy your channel Jason!!
Nice job, Jason. I've been catcing up on your videos. Just awesome. Btw, can you list the music?
Another great shot.
Thank you
Jason
Welcome to the channel, Oregon does have some amazing country and so much diversity, plus the benefit of so much public land to play on.
Jason
A photography question: Do you generally use autofocus or do you manually focus your shots? What did you do with this particular shot? Thanks!
Digging the photo tips! Nice shots!
John, thank you for the feedback on the photo tips.
Jason
Aaahhh, some Candlebox. There we go.
Glad you appreciate the music Ray.
Jason
Very nice camera, and camp setup... what cooler is that?
Thank you, its the YETI 65.
Jason
Primal Outdoors - Camping and Photography... nice... YETI coolers are nice, I bought a 65, then thought... where's my food going to go after filling it up with my kids drinks and my beer. I returned it for a 105.
Great video
Thank you.
Jason
Man you were up late editing weren't you lol. Very nice video Jason! Love your transitions and music choices and it sets a cool mood!
Haha, I was up late but I wasn't doing much editing. Very glad you enjoyed the video.
Jason
I enjoy your videos a lot, the music pairs well too. What song is in the beginning of this ?
I'm sure you got some great shots over there
Its art my friend

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner! That morning shot turned out beautiful ! Have you ever used Mirror Lock Up when shooting? I've tried it several times and honestly I don't see enough difference to where it's worth messing with. Thanks for my nice "zen" music today!! It soothes me! LOL
I don't use mirror lock up much, I mainly use a 2 second timer or what I am starting to use with my D850 is the silent shooting.
Jason
Great scenery! Question. What kind of awning are you using with your truck set up?
Edward it is a CVT 79" Summit Series.
Jason
Nice video, may I ask how you learned photography? Also, just curious what line of work your in ? I really like your slowmo video with the mellow music, draws one into the video. Nice!
I learned photography by watching tons of hours of RUclips tutorials and lots of practice. I have been in the IT industry for most of my life but recently I have been doing lots of different things (horse trimming, photography, RUclips, sewing and contract IT).
Jason
Great, my son is starting his senior year in computer technology at Pensacola Christian College. He also loves photography.
Happy new year to you. Great videos
Happy new year Travis thank you.
Jason
I like your style dude.
Thank you.
Jason

That is awesome Ken, they are very nice for quick camp stops, I really enjoy mine.
Jason
Great vid! how do you like the Nisi filter system?
So far I like it really well, but I haven't had too much time with it yet.
Jason
Love this one, made me want to be next the fire too. Could almost smell the fire. On some of your videos there are bugs buzzing around the mic, I can literally feel it vibrate in my ear & instinctively brush it away. Weird, huh?!
Nice work! Under the circumstances I think I'd have gone for f16 on that shot though. You can never have too much depth of field on a landscape.
I usually choose not to go above f11 to stay away from diffraction, if I do want more depth of field I stack, plus I wanted the primary focus to be on the rock. Just my way of shooting
Jason
Wheres those steel wedges for breaking those stumps up ... ?
Nice video.
Jason
Not sure which gym you go to but mine doesn’t allow people with axes inside. LOL
Haha, sounds like you need a new gym then.
Jason
What axe do you carry?
To your point I won't drop start it anymore (at least on video, haha ) ;)
Jason
Ha, I was going to say something but figured Kenny was beating you up enough lol. Another tip when tightening the chain, with the bar bolts slightly loose pinch the chain between your fingers in the middle of the bar on the TOP and lift up on the chain, this will take the "slop" out of the bar, adjust to your desired tension and tighten the bar bolts while lifting up.
I was going to comment on the loose chain until I read this.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I wish I could lend you some hand warmers. ;)
Jason
What was the name of your filter system?
NiSi V5 Pro 100mm Filter Holder Kit
Jason
Thanks Jason
