guys, its not about the skin of the drum or the wood of the drum, its the palm of his hands thats doing the magic, its just amazing music he is making, thats all
Beautiful djembe kan. Fantastic range of sounds and some delicate finger techniques. Maybe...just maybe, my favourite djembe kan I've ever heard (including Boka Camara). Thank you for posting :)
Thanks to everyone for the upload encouragement. Kudos once again go to Zoumana - the only explanation I can give for the brilliance of this piece is a comment he once made about drumming - his drumming is often a communication with his ancestors - I just wish I had that kind of hot line ; )
Amazing&amusing! thanks God for giving us this people with such talent! I play djambe but not at this stage of course. You keep my smile on for all the clip lenght!! thanks!! :)
Yes, thank you Brendan - Djembepaja is most proud to present the master in true action - this is stuff that very very rare djembefola on the planet can produce .... :)
Yeah...it's a common misconception for people to hear something like that and think 'wow...that drum sounds amazing...it must be a special drum'. Of course it's always the fola who is amazing. Of course a nice drum helps but it won't turn you into djembe fola overnight!
Love the swing beats, variations galore. He's very clean playing Djembe drums. Makes basics sound like grooves.triplets and accents on breaks. Ghost notes not so much, lol everything anything goes.
Sorry for the delay in getting back to your questions. In this video Zoumana is playing a 62cm high djembe - skin diameter 31cm. It's goatskin and the wood is Lenke (Burkina Faso). I bought the drum from Zoumana when he ended his stay, and I can tell you that the sounds you hear in the solo are entirely due to the superb skills of the drummer ( Zoumana ), and have little to do with the quality of the drum although it is a sweet drum ; )
I listen this beautiful kan.i am a little confused because i just command a djembé with bala wood(khadi, ); Do you think i will have a sound like that? Finally, linke is more played by djembefolah; and they have similar sounds. do you know some bala players?
I love how he grooves, and breaks off and is never off. Me when I play Djembe drum I do make up my own beats from learning some basics first. But when I break away with a few bars,if metronome is still going I can hear if I speed up or whatever. But without it going, when I play I can feel if not on time and honestly I can get thrown off. For a intermediate drummer this shouldn't be the one hick up I have. I need to be honest with myself,if I ever want to move forward. Why am I telling you all this because I'm tired and talk to much
love this rhythm - thanks for sharing! ❤ what a legend!!
probably the best djembe solo I've seen on utube. amazing
Masterful performance!
Wow, so many textures to his style. Love the swing. I can watch this over and over! Thanks for sharing.
guys, its not about the skin of the drum or the wood of the drum, its the palm of his hands thats doing the magic, its just amazing music he is making, thats all
But also quality drums give clearer and richer sound
Its the combination of all those elements
OH YES ! SIMPLY YES ! This is pure joy...
He's one of the best i saw in real long time
