    Very nice job guys. I'm about to do this to my Chevy S10. She was a work horse though so she will need a little body filler in a couple dents in the tailgate and one spot above the left tail light. I've painted a Jeep this way before. I also had to use that rust treatment on a few spots and it worked great.

    I just started my rustoleum car today. Lots of orange peel, but I'll be sanding that out before applying another coat. Seems like it's going to be a pretty decent paint job. Definitely much better than before, looked like it had skin cancer. Cheers. Nice job by the way nice and white.

    Rustoleum combicolor and white spirit. Please read the instructions at the 80/90 VW site in the WIKI (body section) on painting your wagon for £50. It is as informative as I could make it. Theres also a huge thread explaining how it was done and examples of others that have followed suit. It does NOT look like artex 0 the finish is astounding (grin).

    The best paint to use is Rust-oleum Combicolor. which you can thin with white sprit. Also don't forget to flat the paint. I would say flat down down after each cost. takes longer but you get a much better finish.

    If it works for you then excellent. Less masking too. Why are people so negative about this??

  • @vwthings

    Put it this way, you can do one side of the van in under ten minutes :)

    Sure - spraying IS always a better finish but this is for those without a sprayer who don't want mess and having to use twice as much paint. You also get to drive it away within two hours.

    If you want to get rid of orange peel, use a mohair roller!

  • @vwthings
    @vwthings  14 лет назад

    No - much harder work if you do that. It might sound logical but you'll end up losing at least two two layers in the flatting back if you apply too much whereas light flatting between coats helps maintain a level finish without taking off too much.

    As a 3rd generation of a coach painting family. The skill of coach painting is by brush method not roller decorators use rollers my father &grandfather will be turning in their graves.

    Ok, everyone to his own way of doing things, i think however its best to mask a vehicle up before painting (even small bits) with a good extractor fan and mask there are no issues. i suppose using a roller is good say if you are on a camp site with time to kill and just fancy doing a bit to your camper. I think i´ll stick to my trusty garage and excellent finish with my equipment.
