    I am a hand weaver, and I have just gotten access to a large tapestry loom for the first time. Now instead of being intimidated I am excited! This video really caught the very mindful 'timeless time' of weaving.(As well as the utter satisfaction of any OCD tendencies the weaver should have!) Thank you!

    Wow, I can't help but respect Mr. Haspel for not only making this tapestry, but continuing to make them! I thought my single-crochet scarf was slow, but this would be murder for my patience. There's no way I could sit still long enough to make any progress on a tapestry without starting to twitch.
    Regardless of my impatience, this is a truly beautiful art form, and I wish the creator the best in preserving and continuing the art of tapestry weaving!

  • @Uroojinator

    I am so very moved by the dedication of Mr. Haspel. And for someone who only searched because she wanted to know what weaving a tapestry entailed, I feel I'm already in love with the art.

    The music was specially composed for the video (i.e. not as part of any unrelated album) -- & recorded on live instruments in the space for which the tapestry was designed.

    I am very inspired by the work of Noreen Crone Findlay. She was showing the different ways of making those bobbin things. I was wondering how tapestry was done. I myself as a fabric artist....have NEVER watched this art made before. This IS truely AMAZING! I would sooooo love to be in that room watching this artist!

    Tip o' the hat to all who "got it" -- meaning: those who acoustically held through the 10-minute madness ... it was meant to convey all the "insanity" that goes into fabricating such a work of multigenerationally sustainable*/durable art. PS * sustainable in the sense of stil mattering when the current hype has passed ...

    By George, she's/he's got it!
    IOW the borderline unbearability of the audio track was designed to convey a
    sense of the incredibly long, borderline mind-numbing process of
    creating such a "nice" tapestry (that will last for generations to come, time is such a relative dimension).
    Thank you for the feedback -- Margit

      im sure he didn't started like this, this is advanced even for me to even try to do it, i would suggest to find and take a tapestry class they'll provide you with all the material if you like it you can keep on your own later or start by making small rugs with homemade tools and if you like it keep buying and adding more professional tools and different techniques.

    • @treygehring2951
      @treygehring2951 10 лет назад +6

      To get really straight vertical lines you have to do a slit technique. You are bringing two yarns towards each other to a point and then turning back in the other direction. This leaves a slit between the two colors that must be sewn up either as you are weaving or afterwards. This is what he is sewing shut. The sewing is invisible once it is done.

    I didn't find the video or the audio unbearable in any way. I was surprised to find so much physicality and spontaneity in the weaving process, and the percussion added an element of suspense to the repetitive guitar, perhaps suggesting potential accidents or unexpected results in the tapestry. Congratulations to both of you.
