    For me, a young teenage girl, I actually find the lyrics inspiring. Although I am not in anyway associated with Korean culture, (other than the fact that I am a Kpop fan) in my culture it is not unusual for girls my age to wear revealing clothing. Many girls feel pressured, or want to look attractive to boys, however they actually feel uncomfortable revealing so much skin. What I took from the song was a boy trying to protect the girl. It seems as though by wearing such revealing clothing and attracting others attention she feels pretty and they even say "Who are you doing this for?" as if she isn't doing it for herself, but for the reaction of others- especially since they say that she feels uncomfortable and awkward wearing such clothing herself. What I found inspiring was that the song was encouraging girls to not wear such clothing WITH THE INTENTION of attracting others, but to just be you without flaunting your body in others faces in order to feel wanted. The boy constantly said that he thought she was pretty and gentle, and advised her to not dress in this way FOR OTHERS. He was telling her that he liked her for other reasons than her body. That's just what I took from the song:)

    Pretty sure this song is meant to be a semi-serious take on the GENERAL jealousy of men in Korean culture. Even if it's meant to be serious - which I highly doubt - I can't take it seriously that way. Anyone who has listened to K-Pop for a while will understand (not necessarily agree with) the fact that men are supposed to be straight forward and women are supposed to be submissive, feminine, and adhere to what men say (in Korean society). Yes, as Westerners, and women of this century, we find it creepy, insulting and belittling, but that's just their culture; they still have a strong sense of patriarchy. A few salty comments on a lyric video aren't going to change how a whole society sees things.
    Do I hate the sexism? Of course.
    How do I interpret the lyrics? Being a fan of Infinite for as long as I have, I find it kinda satyrical, to be honest.
    The song in general? You can't deny that if you DIDN't read the translation, you would be bopping the fuck all the way to your Koreaboo snack-packs. Plus, the 1980's Western-pop-ish sound is something I would love to hear from them again.

    I feel everyone here who is claiming its sexism comes from a completely different culture and isn't thinking about the Korean one. Even in my culture exposing skin is seen as a no no. Not that you shouldn't do it but it's better to avoid it especially if the clothes are low to expose yourself.
    The lines: "you're making me into a narrow minded man" is literally me thinking about the sexism comments. You're all looking at this with one view vision which is the one you want to see.
    Especially if it's from a boyfriends perspective wouldn't you not want your lover to be exposing yourself to others? It's not blaming the victim but telling people to be aware of what they're actions could do. Everything anyone does will cause a consequence. Whether that's stealing a pen from school or murdering someone in an alley they all have a consequence whether that's simply a guilty conscience or an impulse to do the same thing again.

    • @veronicacherubino3142
      @veronicacherubino3142 6 лет назад +12

      bueaty3656 The exposure of one's skin should never justify someone assaulting you ever! It's not like you're going around butt naked which is illegal anyway but the point of the matter is no one has the right to tell you how short your skirt should be or how low cut your top should be if you're both supposed to be grown ass adults in an equal relationship. If your partner can't handle how you want to "dress and act", well maybe they should find someone else. And painting all men as wolves who just can't control themselves and respect women in the first place to not attack them is problematic.

I think you misunderstood the song lyrics and ignored the fact that they literally called all men Wolves? They didn't blame women instead they blamed men for the wrong in society. For better understanding watch the song MV and see how the bf/husband is trying to protect his woman from Wolves, lol. Also don't forget this song is Korean and has nothing to do with western society. You just can't judge it based on your western knowledge.

    • @veronicacherubino3142

      P0tat0Nati0N No it's not sweet. It's slut shaming her. It's saying if you only didn't wear that, you wouldn't get all this trouble you're getting now. I'm sorry but she can wear whatever the hell she wants, maybe those boys should just learn to not make trouble for people. And I don't find the insecurity, sexual jealousy and possessiveness on the guy's part very sweet at all, it's controlling and abusive. I'd prefer a guy who is confident in himself to let me express myself confidently. And It's also presuming that she doesn't already know what the fuck she's doing. She may already know how to avoid predatory guys without his help and I don't like how this song portrays all men as predatory e.g. "men are all wolves". I think it's rather insulting to men in that way. Not hating on you, I just personally don't agree with your opinion. I think the lyrics are quite sexist but I don't think it's Infinite's fault because they didn't write the song.

    "Why did you have to wear that?" and "What's wrong with you?" show that they're worried because the skirt is too short.
    "Men are all wolves" talked about the way men see girls when they wear 'revealing' clothing.
    "You're not even worried" tells us that girls should be aware of what they do even if it's not their fault.
    "Do this in front of only me" shows that the member singing is not a pervert so she doesn't need to be worried when she wears things like that around him.
    "My insides are burning up in front of you" means he's angry because he doesn't like people looking at his girl like that.
    "Stop being stubborn" is basically talking about how she's making guys feel sexually attracted to her because of her clothes but she doesn't care or understand that.
    "Who are you doing this for?" is INFINITE asking why she has to wear such short skirts on a very windy day when she had the choice between skirt or pants.
    "You're putting yourself into trouble on purpose" is talking about sexual abuse and how girls wearing short skirts 'turn men on'.
    It's not INFINITE being sexist, it's them bringing awareness about sexual abuse.

      Oh Ha Ni chan No. Just no. Stop trying to justify the sexism in this song. Infinite didn't write the song, so I wouldn't say they are being sexist, after all they were just given the song and told to sing it. HOWEVER the song itself promotes victim-blaming, the idea that men own women and have the right to dictate their actions, as well as many other sexist themes. This song is sexist and is in no shape or form "bringing awareness to sexual abuse". Again we can't call Infinite sexists because they didn't write the song and we don't know them personally. However the song itself is sexist.

      sweetune overall makes great songs, but "incovenient truth" was just awful and i'm saying this as an inspirit. also to clarify, i meant that this is the only shitty song that infinite has ever published so far. cant you see that it's SEXIST??? if you don't, then you probably have to check your eye sight. otherwise, all of their other songs are fine.

      lol i stopped coming here already. i was at my raging point bc as an inspirit who thought that the meaning of every infinite song is great and sweet, this track has shocked me with its sexist lyrics that i find very uncomfortable to hear as a woman. ik that it's woollim's fault, not infinite's. the song is still bad, but i can't do anything about it, lmao

    This song disgusts me like wtf it's not okay for someone to tell someone else what to wear. The song suggests that if you dress sexily you will get assaulted and therefore you are at fault and not the person who harassed you. That's like someone blaming you for having a car when you get carjacked. Instead of dictating how people should dress/act, we need to teach people that harassment is never okay and tbh I never expected this to come from a talented group like infinite bc I love them a lot

      You DO realize that they didn't personally write the song...right?
      So regardless of whether they also agree with the song or not, they still have to sing it. They have no say in it unless it's a song they wrote and composed themselves or helped to write/compose.
      Also you should realize that considering how Korean society is, they've very much backwards in certain aspects, such as LGBT rights and feminism (or even treating women properly, in some cases). So Koreans didn't think much about the contents of this song when it was released.
      I'm glad that a lot of international fans are very against this type of message and are hoping that Woollim knows better than to accept songs like this in the future.
      I myself hate this song because it goes against a lot of my feminist ideals. But I'm not going to be disappointed in the group for it.

      +aaSiriusly Tardis I'm sorry if I sounded like that! I didn't mean to come of as being rude about Infinite, I just hate the song and its what trying to say. I understand that Korean culture is very different to western cultures and hopefully woollim doesn't make a song like this again :)

    • @matcha_
      @matcha_ 8 лет назад +4

      olivia burley
      Happy to know you aren't hating on the boys- just the message of the song. ^.^
      Which is how it should be. It really upset me when I saw a couple people hating on the group for this song.
      There are kpop artists that are writing their own songs where their message and lyrics sound very misogynistic. Yet fans have the mentality to defend them even if they don't apologize.
      So it seemed kinda misplaced that people would look at Infinite in the same way when they aren't the ones thinking this way.
      Honestly, I was very surprised when I read the lyrics to this song the first time mainly because Woollim is very up front and open about them being supportive of LGBT rights. So for them to have a song that's basically anti-feminism all of a sudden was kinda weird.

    • @minademalmaison7619
      @minademalmaison7619 8 лет назад +1

      +aaSiriusly Tardis I thought it was a bit strange too since I've never heard Woollim do a song that gives such a negative message and usually, like you said, they're very pro-LGBT so idk. Glad we understand each other tho haha I love infinite and everything about them and I would never dream of hating on them. Do you have a bias? I'm in between Sunggyu and Myungsoo :P

    • @matcha_
      @matcha_ 8 лет назад +5

      olivia burley
      Nope. I'm OT7. Once you've been in the fandom long enough, you start forgetting that there's a word called "bias" and just end up stanning all the members equally.
      When I first became an Inspirit, Myungsoo was my bias b/c I saw him in so many kdramas. Then it was Hoya after watching Reply 1997. Then, I was Woohyun biased, followed by Sunggyu, Dongwoo, Sungyeol and Sungjong.
      I just kinda gave up and decided to get rid of a bias list altogether. Now I love and support all of them equally and wholeheartedly. I don't "skimp" on my love for any of them. When Hoya was coming out with his movie, I was all over twitter and the kpop threads helping to promote it. When Woohyun's solo album news came out, I was going nuts over that. Then, they mentioned that Sunggyu was going to be in a new musical so I was busy with that.
      So many of the Inspirits I've met over the years have told me similar things- that when you're around them long enough, you toss the bias list and just become a hardcore OT7 stan. It's the best type of stan to be. ^.^
      Many of them said that they've been with Infinite since before debut, so they watched Infinite grow and succeed and those Inspirits grew with them as well. So it's hard for them to be biased towards only one member. Even though I haven't been around since before debut, like many of the older noona fans, I'll be celebrating my 5th "anniversary" with my boys this summer. I used to be one of the "younger" fans before b/c all the Inspirits I knew were eonnies. But now, I've become an eonnie to the newer Inspirits that we've been seeing and it makes me happy to think that Infinite, even at their age, is still gaining fans. XD

    I don't want to justify anything trust me but i wont crucify INFINITE either, First of all...You must to remember the year the song was released and the country where was released, eventhought it wasn't written by INFINITE , they are singing it anyway cause they are KOREANS, and KOREAN CULTURE is like that different from ours individual and surely westerns roots. Apart from the fact that the song was released almost 6 years ago and they were youngers, It must be analyzed from that moment and not from our current vision of life, because lately , things seems are evolve a little in Asia....Asian cullture is almost the same everywhere with subtle differences in some places must to say, but basically Asian culture and yes, latino culture and all of NON Western/Eurocentrist cultures are like that, sexists , male chauvinist and discriminatory towards women, we can not be hypocrites and blame INFINITE for singing a song that promotes sexism and the submission of women, when we still under the males boot, with worse working conditions and lower salaries or tied to a kitchen/House, raising tons of children and giving thanks for not being beaten or killed for not doing what the man wants. But, we are misiing one thing in this controversy and this thing is the title, yes guys the title menas everything! , They are not saying they are agree with what they are singing, they are not legitimizing anything, from my point of view they are only putting in black and white an "inconvenient" reality that is sexism in a society such as Korean I Hate this song, this was my first and last time listening this song, I hate the fact that i will not forget this shitty lyric for good, but i 'm thankful to know my boys once singing about this situation that is inconvenient and awkward for female gender. Peace
