That G85 kit lens is actually excellent, not sure if you ever got around to using it but it's honestly one of the sharpest and nicest kit lenses I've use. It has an excellent range, the weather sealing works great, it's tack sharp, and generally reliable to focus (obviously regular g85 caveats apply)...also super light weight, just don't drop it :)

Hey Casey! So here's my first time asking you a question about gear : I have a budget of around 5000 CAD to buy my first mirrorless camera to make videos. I previously had a Nikon D7100 with a Sigma 30mm toneh 1.4 and oh boi let's not talk about it (managed to make some pretty nice music videos out of it but yeah, they still suck). I am looking at the A7C because i will need the autofocus as I shoot a lot of human subjects (music video, documentary and maybe weeding and advertising if I ever get a job in those fields later). I was looking at the S5 because of the price and colors but after binge watching your videos for the past 2 months, I've switched my mind towards Sony (better ecosystem and AF). I plan on buying the A7C (mainly due to eye AF and gyroscope paired with a gimbal) and a sigma 28 70 toneh 2.8. I however don't know if I shoot wait for the A7IV to expect 10bit colors and 4k 60 and invest in that instead. What do you think? I've also been contemplating the Sony 20 1.8 (because of you) instead of the Sigma 28-70 but it's crazy if I want to have it as my first lens while shooting music video and narrative stuffs, right?! I would like to know if 28mm is wide enough for some street landscape videography (not vlogging i know it's too tight) and if 2.8 good for lowlight, if you could make a video about it that would be nice!

I either want to spend as little as possible or make sure I get the best camera/glass I can afford, though the A7C looks like a good buy and could allow for more $$ for good glass. Thank you.
My advice is not as evolved as CC's but I am a portrait photographer so take it for what it's worth. Portrait photography is one of the few areas where the size of the sensor and the aperture of the lens matters. You'll get the best results with a full frame sensor and a prime lens that is sharp at f1.4. You'll probably need a different lens for astro.

Hi Kasey, you should try some good lighting like the falcon eyes so-68td.. I think that would increase the image quality more than expensive cameras.. it is a big soft light which is very flat, so you do not need a lot of space.. you could place it right behind your computer desk at the wall...

Sony APS-C cameras are actually quite good. The choice of lenses is more than enough as you can use all lenses for E-mount. I think Sony models from A6300 and up are an affordable way to get started with quality video. It's also a system that you can expand and upgrade quite easily.

The pro mist looks better IMHO but I´ve noticed that the K&F "improves" the Toneh of the Olympus lens. Overall these filters all have a smoothing effect that I like to call the Barbara Walters look that does wonders for crows feet, wrinkles, and blemishes.

I love that K&F black mist filter, it’s such a deal at 72mm or less. At 77mm the price almost doubled, so try to use the smallest size you cab.

I have an iPhone 12 ProMax and an Insta360 OneR twin edition. I want a proper cropped sensor camera for photography of models annd talking head vloggs. XT200, XT30, Z50 or e-m1 mkii, though not cropped is a thing you like!
The pro mist looks better IMHO but I´ve noticed that the K&F "improves" the Toneh of the Olympus lens. Overall these filters all have a smoothing effect that I like to call the Barbara Walters look that does wonders for crows feet, wrinkles, and blemishes.
Annnd it's official, you do actually like colored background light in RUclips videos 😁. I think it should always match the color of your shirt, I'm looking forward to pink shirt day....

But wait a minute...I purchased the Fujifilm 16-80 X-T3 kit over the 18-55, because the sales guy at B&H in New York said it was a better lens. It was the first camera I purchased since buying the Canon SD1000 over 12 years ago.
