    • @deerepasture
      @deerepasture 3 года назад

      So true, all mechanical things wear out or break, but some designs are less reliable than others but a farmer mostly won’t know until too late and with the complexity of today’s machines it usually means a parts hunt because no dealer can stock every part needed. So glad a forklift guy showed up, you don’t need a hurt back to go with a broken combine. The change over to a newer design means additional sales (expense) of gears etc, but what can you do?

    • @griggsfarmsllc
      @griggsfarmsllc  3 года назад

      Well it is an improved part. That happens a lot in farm machinery. Old part numbers will cross to new ones and the better part will work but sometimes it needs some different associated parts to go with it. It can be very aggravating and frustrating looking through the online manuals figuring out which part you actually need

    I used to work for a guy when I made the mistake of moving to MS that had ground from Rossville, Tn to Drew, Ms. I’m pretty sure it was a 6 hour drive on a combine from one end to the other. Plus we had to deal with the Jackson type traffic you deal with. There were words exchanged in the middle of the road more than once over people being stupid. I had a guy jump out of his car and charge the truck one time, and it’s only getting worse unfortunately.

      Those model combines depreciate about $150-200 per hour the engine is running. I’m not going to pay that when I can have my paid for machine back going soon. And it’s not the dealers fault that my combine broke so they shouldn’t have to pay for it either.

    How much money does our government give farmers per acre?

    • @griggsfarmsllc
      @griggsfarmsllc  3 года назад

      It all depends on the farm, crops, county it’s located in, the year, what commodity prices are, what programs a farm is signed up for, etc. it can be very complex. One thing subsidies are not tied to is actual yield on a farm due to that being a violation of World Trade Orginazation laws
      I plant to do a video talking about subsidies at some point.

    Do you think the jarring that the combine took in the accident is causing all these issues to smart showing up now I know you said that before you had the accident that you had just put a lot of money in it but I still say you should have walked away from it and found somthing else I don't believe that machine will ever be right anymore.

    • @griggsfarmsllc
      @griggsfarmsllc  3 года назад

      It may have had something to do with the bolt and gearbox. We’ll never know because that’s a known issue on these machines. That’s the reason for the bigger bolt and different shaft on the new gearbox.
      The accident didn’t help. That rotor weighs 2000 lbs and it’s just resting on one bearing and the gearbox shaft.
      I’m still $70k ahead from the insurance settlement and owe nothing on a new machine. I’m still confident in my decision

    As long as we keep letting China take our scrap steel, cheapen it and resell it to us in bolts and assorted parts, we will continue to have problems. The biggest problem with sending our manufacturing overseas is that we produced a good, solid, dependable product, and now we get a cheap, not as well made, product. In addition, we did not provide the oversight to insure quality. I think Grandpa was right, penny wise and dollar foolish.

    Your dealer is cool but you should have off loaded that combine. Jumping it was a major wreak and it should have been scraped. That dealer should have provided another combine during the repair you did to much work. I give you and A+ but the dealer sucks and I would never buy red again. Sorry but they have options to help you and Case supports it. They decided not to provide you loaners. I would never buy from them again. Sorry but million dollar machine they need to see future sales and help out more. They are worthless an your video clearly show what’s wrong with case! Great video sorry for you bad luck. I’m just evil but I think your to nice

      I have no complaints with the dealer. They did a great job getting me going as quickly as possible. Typically you have to wait a few days to be able to get in the shop due to other jobs but they got me right in.
      It’s not their job to give me a loaner. It’s their job to fix my machine, provide me parts, or sell me equipment. A combine depreciates about $200 every hour it’s run.
      As far as scrapping it after the accident, I’m still about $70K ahead after all the repairs. So it’s been a pretty good choice for me. Better than being in debt for another one.
