Probably jumped over it. Yes, why do they take the best and not the obnoxious roosters!!😂 sorry for your loss. Predators are so sneaky!!

My guess is that roosters are always on the lookout and see them coming sooner. They are supposed to warn the hens and defend them but maybe sometimes the hens don't listen or react too slowly. I have lost a few roosters over the last two years as well.

Trapping a bobcat to protect a few chicken is a bit of an overkill. Especially since it looks like you haven't tried more useful methods to protect your chicken? You have a nice open area with well a mown laws. If the bobcat doesn't get your chicken, a bird of prey will. Or another carnivore.
I've seen chicken scoops that are basically a tunnel system of wires overgrown with vine, or tomato or other climbing plants. The chicken are quite save inside. You could also try an automated mobile chicken coop. Or maybe try cut down trees that aid with climbing? Have a livestock guardian dog? Leave unmowed stripes of tall grass as concealment for the chicken to hide in? Is your community not paying for loss of livestock to natural predators? Maybe you have done all that and it didn't work?

I am not sure where you are from or the level of experience you have with chickens and predators but they are in an electrified netting type fence and it still found a way to kill one of my chickens. The govt doesn't repay me for dead birds. we have plenty of predators around here. I eventually want the chickens to run free again.

@@springhollerfarm8668 my experience is limited. I'm just sad that a wild animal is chased down for doing what it's nature is. I hope you find a solution that is in harmony with life.
