I first heard “Fever Dream Kids” while listening to DKFM Shoegaze radio winter 2020 and it has stood out for me ever since. It’s one of those songs that actually had the power to change how I listened to and sought out new music which is rare. The first time that ever happened to me, I was 15 yrs old and heard The Cocteau Twin’s “Pearly Dew Drops Drops” play on the radio for the first time and it changed my taste in music forever. Never heard anything like it then… and since, frankly. CT forever! Your sound is so fresh, otherworldly and strangely beautiful… and I never want it to stop.
Then I just heard “Truly Being Alive” for the first time on the same station weeks ago and I’m still mesmerized by the singular brilliance of this song. A sonic tour de force beautifully written about the struggle, the joy, the pain of being in love and being alive… all in one, the same. A live performance of this song would truly be a gift to the world. On this song Iiris, your high notes remind be of Kate Bush’s classic fluttering falsettos, your crystal clear two-part harmonies remind me of The Cocteau Twin’s Elizabeth Fraser and her mellifluous polyphony, the darkened bass and key cords remind me of Bauhaus and the lyrics hearken to the introspective angst of Galaxie 500. I can hear the influences of Shoegaze, Goth and Electronica throughout. You might say your sound could usher in a new genre of music… so what’s it called? Spacegaze?
But enough gushing… you are my new muse Iiris and I am at your mercy. Please play live whatever you’d like. Your loyal fans are all ears!!
