  • In this video I go over the new 2020 Subaru WRX in the Premium trim with the Performance Package in the brand new Magnetite Gray color, which has the new Red Brembo Brakes and Recaro Seats + Moonroof delete. The WRX has been one of the last manual transmission, sedan, AWD, 4 Cylinder, turbo cars available. Does it still stand up 5 years after its launch? Find out in this video!

    I wish the Performance Package would have received the LED headlights. All it needs otherwise is a rear LSD and the current STI offers little advantage. Of course you could always do STI drivetrain swap :)
    I recently upgraded from a '16 WRX to a '19 STI w/ the Recaro package. I do miss how the FA responded to flex fuel. It was certainly faster than my STI and managed better gas mileage on E50 than I do on 91 in the STI.. But the STI certainly offers a more tactile, mechanical driving experience that the WRX can't match. Getting the STI for below invoice (over $4k under MSRP) certainly helped the decision. The WRX w/ Performance Package may have made my decision harder if it would have been available at the time. The Recaros and Brembos are a great combo for ~$2,800.

I do plan to replace the wheels and tires, that is one thing I don't understand, why put summer specific tires on a rally inspired car ? lol

      So, it’s a bit late. I’ve owned it for the past 2 years. It’s great. The seats are fantastic, the breaks are awesome, I’ve tried a 2022, they suck by comparison. It’s a great package, I’ve tracked the car 7 days since I’ve owned it. Only needed 1 set of oem break pads. If you can find a low mileage model I would highly recommend it.

      @kcspeed9980 3 месяца назад

      @@codezalo5773 yeah, so I have a performance pack with the brembos. Honestly you could just get a set of hawk or other performance pads and get similar performance. Also a rotor upgrade is necessary. However the brembo kit gives you more options for performance pads and the factory rotors are fantastic. I tracked my car for 2 years and besides changing pads 3 times I’ve never had a breaking issue, same rotors. The car has 40k miles. I knew while searching for a car I wanted something that could handle track days without costing an arm and a leg. It’s been a great daily/track car.

    I would've purchased a WRX years ago if they hadn't dropped the hatchback. I don't do sedans, so they need to bring back the hatch if they want to sell me one. I hope they realize their mistake and revive it for the 2021 redesign.

    • @dlg5485
      @dlg5485 3 года назад

      @Dave C. Hatches may be niche among the normal 'grocery getter' car buying crowd, but they are beloved and preferred by most of the enthusiast car buying crowd and that is who the WRX is for.
      Incidentally, I decided to by a 2020 WRX sedan after all. I hate that I had to make such a massive compromise and I'm still a little pissed about it, but rumor has it that the hatch is simply not coming back. It just made sense to me to buy one at the end of its life cycle for maximum reliability and the available knowledge base about the car, as opposed to buying the next gen that will be on an entirely new platform.

    Just picked up a 2020 Premium with the sport package. Overall I'm happy with the car but for the price I just can excuse the terrible sound system. This is bottom of the barrel sound quality and it doesn't help the that road noise is so loud in the cabin. The info system could be better as well. Really Subaru you cant give a real time miles to empty gauge? The gauge will read 200 miles to empty and then the next second go down to 150. The center console arm rest is a joke as well. You actually have to buy and aftermarket extender so you can actually rest your arm on it.

      .. Agree, they put zero effort into the infotainment/speaker system and heavily boosted bass levels. The rest of the car is alright, but in all actuality is nothing to write home about. As a '19 base owner, I couldn't imagine paying more than $30k for this car. The added features don't warrant the price jumps. The performance package is the way to go, but is not worth the $35k msrp.

    I have a 2019 WRX premium. I am getting the 2021 WRX Limited when it comes out, can anyone tell me if you can get the "performance package" with the limited? On subaru website for building the car, you can only select the premium for the performance package.. im wanting the Recaro and brembo on the limited though. Wondering if anyone knows, if I'd be able to do that when it comes out.

    • @DJWolf
      @DJWolf  3 года назад

      The performance package has only ever been available on the premium models (its dumb) the exception was the “Series white” last year which was basically a limited with a performance package. So your only real bet is going to be to pick up whatever limited edition they offer.
      If you have a 2019 I would honestly just wait for the next gen which will likely be out at some point next year. I think it will be a very significant improvement.

      The base is a great value, but you do get a lot of extra options going from base to premium like:
      Heated Seats, Heated windshield wipers, inverted struts, auto on/off headlights, larger 7" headunit, fog lights.
      You can also save some money if you're planning on getting aftermarket wheels because you can swap these 18" tires to your new wheels instead of buying all new tires.
      And with the performance package the recaro's has substantially nicer material as well.
      This particular car has been pretty much taken apart and protuned before 500 miles, lol

      I have owned several STIs as well as several WRXs (this is actually my 3rd WRX of this generation). They both have their pros and cons. The FA20 in the WRX is way easier and cheaper to make power with. Generally speaking when you start modifying them, mod for mod, the WRX will be faster. The FA20 gets significantly better fuel economy. The STI has a better feeling transmission and also the DCCD (driver controlled center differential). The STI obviously has the iconic rumble but the engine architecture is esentially a 20 year old design at this point with minor upgrade since it was introduced. Just depends on what someone values, this generation is not like the older versions where the STI was simply better.

      As my buddy’s STI awaits a new short block at less than 35k on a stock setup, I’m not sold on the EJ.
      My 2016 FA20 has been e85 tuned since it had 10k on it...now has 130k. It made 339whp. It gets driven heavily, year-round (obviously with the miles). I change plugs and oil regularly, and at 123k I changed the clutch. I may be biased, but I’m not sold on the EJ. The fact the FA is chain driven was a high selling point for me.

      Existential I have to disagree, I too own a 2015 with full bolts and a full e85 tune making 387hp and over 350 torque and walk Sti’s with the same amount of work done. The unreliability that comes with the 2015-2017 sti isn’t worth the added upgrades in brakes and transmission to warrant the price tag it demands, however neither car does anything exceptional or has luxury components that puts it in the 32grand and up category
