I show beef cows and this was really cool to watch because the way they are shown is so so different, some similar things are the back foot closest to the judge is back, spacing between animals, the head being up, and the nose being slightly pointed towards the judge
Has the showmanship rules changed much since 2016? Would love to show this to my niece but I don’t want to give her the wrong information for 2019. Great video! A lot has changed since I’ve shown in early 2000’s. 😅

Can I just ask one thing? Yesterday I participated in a 4H Dairy show at my school and I watched this video before to use as a preparation. It was great! However, I placed very low and it was due to something I didn't know was off limits. The judge said that it was because he saw that I touched/adjusted the heifers top line just before I had her square up. He said you should never touch that area in the ring and if I was in a more competitive class I could've been disqualified. I simply pressed down on the raised part of her spine to make it straighter in effort to have her appear more feminine to the judge as she had just peed before and it curled the spine. I did this mainly because I saw others doing this who went before me who were more experienced, and they definitely did not place as low as I did in their heats. I know you definitely shouldn't always do whatever you see others doing but it was my first time showing dairy so I am very inexperienced. Would you be able to please write back to me and just let me know what the deal is with topline touching in the dairy ring?
So I’ve been showing Dairy cows for 9 years (I’m 19), and been doing 4-H for 13 years and every time I show my Dairy heifers I always do that and so do all the others, I personally think it’s just that Judge because I’m always in my State fair and nobody has ever told me that and people actually recommend doing that but if around that Judge just don’t do it I guess.

I am a junior 4-Her (age 9) about to show in my first Maryland state fair and want to make sure I have all the showmanship rules correct. At my county fair I was instructed to walk backwards. Can you guide me? Thank you!
