Man.. Until I read about Chris's neck injury from SNL 2001 and suffered from the rigors of usual pain addiction pills etc - This is pretty funny though!
How many people get to do this? Imagine sitting across from a famous actor who influenced you and had such an impression on you, and getting to ask them any question you can think of? All I've been thinking about this whole pod is how this has to be soooo crazy for Rick. So cool.
Cool to get Chris on, bummer he didn't really play with you much. Chris dated a friend of mine a few years ago and seemed to be much higher energy even then. He was on Tigerbelly and Pauly's pod at that time and was able to be a silly goose. He has had a lot of health problems, hope he is ok, nice to hear he is engaged.

Enjoyed this convo. Grew up enjoying Kattan on SNL and I find that Rick is very interesting and funny. When Rick speaks about energy in regard to stand up-as a fan of stand up-I’m generally not a big fan of constant “big” energy in stand up. I think that desire for “energy” in comics often times translates into a feeling of them being too “eager” or having artificial enthusiasm to the audience (at least to me). I view stand up comedy similar to a sports car. A sports car is not very fun if you push it to its limits 100% of the time-it’s far more enjoyable if you drive it normally and then push it to it’s limits every now and then. I think this is why I prefer the podcasts/skits of certain comedians more than I do their stand up. For example-with Joe Rogan and Rick Glassman-I very much prefer their podcasts to their stand up. I like them having authentic interesting conversations but spiking them with the occasional boosts of comedic energy. Even with SNL-high energy guys like Farley and Kattan worked because they were short skits. The lower energy parts of stand up I think are wonderful for creating anticipation and they allow the audience to breathe a little.
I feel like a five minute phone call about the show beforehand would have been very helpful in creating a little bit of rapport. Too many indirect questions fishing for a subject to arise. Still interesting to see Chris in this stage of his life.
The forward head posture is an attempt to open his airway he has adapted to breath like this I wish I could work with him to help him. If you read this and have similar issues reach out .
Rick, great work showing how multifaceted this podcast can be. Though it wasn't the silly bits and riffing we're used to, you still did a great job of adapting to make the interview work. ❤
