In this installment, SparkFun Director of Engineering Pete Dokter, and engineer Elizabeth delve into some otherworldly tech as they build an antenna for detecting Electronic Voice Phenomena, and test it out at one of Colorado's spookiest graveyards.

On old tape recorders, the overlapping of the tapes, coupled magnetically with the tape over and under it, creating a very faint echo of what was recorded. As investigators used open reels on very slow speed, the echo could occur lots of seconds after.
So, kids, this is why collectors have to rewind tapes every few months to keep the echo from building up. The same thing happened to old VHS tapes... but they did create visual "ghosts" in the image. Today SD cards don't have that problem.

In a world jam-packed with interesting phenomena that actually exist, they chose to investigate one that has no basis in reality. At least it involved a field trip.
Dear friends Sparkfun want to congratulate you , I think you make a very good , natural and fresh work. Seeing this episode I could not help making a comment in relation to the activity of Elizabeth , I have seen many people trying to make contact with ghosts, and that at some point may seem cool , but nobody says that this activity is very dangerous , it is common to find cases of people who had contact with spirits and for ignorance by doing that ran under a possession , or had physical attacks , etc. Wholeheartedly I recommend more research on the subject and advice of serious people . I have deepened and have had interaction in this field and I think it must carefully manage . Greetings and best wishes . Oscar
Not all EVP"s are in the frequency range of the human voice, it has been well documented that EVP's can be produced in a vacuum (bell jar) using a dynamic microphone, the diaphragm is completely removed from the equation since sound needs air to propagate. So what is happening is that the coil is recording the EVP so at least some of the time the recording is indeed electromagnetic in nature.
The big question is "what are the frequencies of true EVP's"

So when you are using the PSB-7, how can you be 100% sure that all of the RF coming from radio stations were ALL accounted for? Is there an on/off switch for RF reception?
why not add a 60hz notch filter between the loop and recorder to remove the power line noise
I was thinking if they're going for vocal frequencies a high pass set at 500Hz would get rid of a lot of noise.

Are you f-ing serious? Why would Sparkfun even let you use the company channel to funnel this horseshit out to its subscribers and customers? I've been on the fence about un-subscribing since Robert left, now I don't even have to think twice. I'm not only down-voting with my RUclips thumb-down, I'm down-voting with my dollars as well; Sparkfun will never get a single dime from me again. Taking my business elsewhere and not recommending business with the company to anyone again.
