Love seeing my city (Cincinnati) in a classic noir!!! So cool!
I was about to say that reminded me of a TikTok account I came across a long time ago, and then I realized. 😅
Sterling Hadyen is always excellent. Especially in Dr. Strangelove and his rant on flouridated water.
See "The Killing." Kubrick and Hayden. Fun to compare it with AJ.
I'm surprised hes not smoking a cubin rn
@@TheSaltydog07 I like both movies but if you watch them together my recommendation is to watch The Killing first then Asphalt Jungle. After watching AJ The Killing is a bit of a let down.
Marilyn Monroe ("Some sweet kid") brought me to this movie but I stayed for:
the plot
the story
Sterling Hayden
Sam Jaffe (a brilliant actor playing a brilliant character): "Cops, I can smell one a block away" also: "How long were you looking at me through the window" COP: "A couple of minutes" Sam's Character: "About as long as it takes to play a phonograph record"
Doctor (about Sterlings' character): He won't get far, there isn't enough blood left in him to keep a chicken alive.
Marylin at 1.40.
How about James Whitmore as "Gus, the strong arm boy. A right guy in a wrong world?"
Kudos to Jean Hagen, the other girl in the film. This is a far cry from Lina Lamont in "Singing in the Rain"
"Haven't you bothered me enough, you big banana head".
Love Norma-Jean!!
What a gal.
Sterling Hayden was the go to man for these film noir. I would say one of his finest performance was again in a film noir and the film in question was *The Long Goodbye* (1973) co-starring with Elliot Gould.
How about Hayden as Jonny Clay, the Mastermind of another caper gone bad , "The Killing" from 1956. Or as Jonny Guitar?
I'm currently watching The Asphalt Jungle, one of the best crime films of all time. It never gets dull, that's for sure. And with a sterling cast, lead by Sterling Hayden, Marilyn Monroe, Sam Jaffe, Louis Calhern, James Whitmore, Jean Hagen, Marc Lawrence, and John McEntire. W.R. Burnett, who wrote Little Caesar and The Treasure of Sierra Madre, scored big with this one. Thanks for uploading the original trailer.
This was one of the first movies Marilyn was in that got the public interested in seeing her in movies.

Triple threat: on the lam, wanted bad, packing heat. Great film.
Sterling Hayden? I'm watching it. Period.
Agree.
@@paulshafer3415 I`m reading his biography by Lee Mandel - the chapter on his screen test for this movie is amazing. It made me cry. I just love Mr. Hayden - his movies and his books.
Its no mystery that John Huston gets so much out of this wonderful cast making this film timeless Huston also knew he wanted just a score for the beginning and the end sequences and of course he finds the great Miklos Rosza for the task....the final sequence with the score is almost poetic for a crime film . This one improves with each viewing
great film, seen it many times. "DONT BONE ME, MISTER!"
Gran peli.Actuaciones inolvidables...y un final inesperadamente melancolico.👀🌹🍃🌹🍃🌹🍃🌠💎🌠💎
Originally Burnett and Huston called this great movie, "The Asphalt Jungle, the City Under the City" because they were going to show the robbers and Cobby (Marc Laurence) using the abandoned Cincinnati subway tunnels to move between the delapidated warehouses along the Ohio River. Cincinnati subway did connect various buildings downtown but it was abandoned during the World War and was used extensely by criminals, bookies, drug dealers and prostitutes in 1940s and 50s. You can still visit parts of Cincinnati's old abandoned subway, city under the city ! The Bellatiers Jewelry Store (biggest in Ohio) was Sharon's Jewelry Store with Bellatiers signs on it for movie. Sharon's has recently been raided by US Govt agents for illicit criminal activity.
In 1948, Cincinnati was the 8th biggest city in US behind Baltimore (6) and Cleveland (7) and ahead of St Louis (9) and Pittsburgh (10). The US Defense agencies wanted subways in the 10 largest cities in part for bomb shelters
Some much for trailers, if its hard to find classics on line to watch in full! Pay or free
A great classic !
Greatest movie of all time
Why does this movie seem Good and I kinda wanna watch it
It was so great that John Huston filmed this great caper gone bad movie, in delapidated high crime downtown 3rd Precinct of Cincinnati Ohio in 1949-50. Looks like a bombed out city. It was full of crime and drugs during 1940s and 50s. Huston chose it well (of course not naming this Midwestern city). The Pilgrim House was really there at 711 4th St and Gus' Cafe was put in by Huston. The Pilgrim House was for the homeless, drunks, drug addicts, prostitutes etc. The Pilgrim Baptist Church is still at 713 4th St Cincinnati. You can see the old Reds stadium in background of one scene. You get the idea that this is Cincinnati when Doc (Sam Jaffee in his best role ever) tells the cabby to drive him to Cleveland which is very far away and get a $50 tip ($670 in 2020$). Everyone needs to see Sterling Hayden, Marc Laurence, Sam Jaffee, Marilyn Monroe, Louis Calhern etc in one of the best John Huston movies ever made.
"For a fifty dollar tip I would drive to The North Pole."
I saw this film for the first time this week. Sam Jaffe stole the show and his best moment was when he was staring at that young girl dancing.
Amazing flim
"I'm planning a caper" - doc R
John Houston was the Best!! …a quote…you see !?
Most people never have to face the fact..the right time..the right place..there capable of ANYTHING!!!! …Huston understood Human Nature..
Watched sterling in gang busters and suddenly recently
Classic
Incontestably, one of John Huston’s masterpiFranky
WONDERFUL MM ‼️‼️‼️‼️
If the noir film talk about violence in the streets, lost and tough men, dirty clubs, cigars and alcohol, dazzling women and a dark fate everywhere you look, The Asphalt Jungle is the compendium of all that.
Ya big banana head lol
At or near the peak of the 'noir' genre.
Marilyn
Great movie, but terrible video quality. I can't stand it when people upscale a very low quality video to HD, just to include "HD" in the video name for more views.
I agree with you 100 percent. These lousy quality prints are embarrassing and hurt the reputation of the films. The DVD of this looks great and there are some excellent 35 mm prints that you can sometimes see in a real movie theater.
I've seen what happened to "Mr Moto's Last Warning" (which was a different kind of lack of video quality.) I agree: video quality can play a big part in enjoying a movie. "Last Warning" went to Public Domian, & many versions aren't restored. I only started enjoying the movie at all when I got the 2nd DVD collection, which has a restored print.
Movie from old mans and young womans
Sterling Hayden played his part so well in "The Godfather," viewers were delighted watching Michael (Al Pacino) shoot him in the head.

The ONLY heist movie better than this is Riffi.
What about "The Killing" - also starring Sterling Hayden and directed by Stanley Kubrick.
Film history class otherwise I'd not be watching this.....
LOL same. I'm doing my final exam and this movie is part of it.
Read a book you two punks.
@Randy White ...and to think, they are the future. lol
