The books the show is based on are pretty dated at this point, like 20+ years old. The main plot points are there but the show adds a lot and modernizes it. There’s no diversity in the books, no LGBT content. They were written before metoo, so you can imagine how problematic some character choices are. There are even some scenes where the male leading characters are quite verbally and physically abusive. The show isn’t perfect but it improves the story a lot. And it even added some of the favorite characters. Queen Charlotte isn’t even in the books, for example.
I have binged all season - waiting impatiently for 3 x 8!!

Also I still feel like this season could've done more for the couple. As much as its not a lust based. We didn't really get to experience Colin yearn for penelope whilst we've watched her do so for 2 previous seasons. It felt unbalanced and then the other storylines overshadowed the it was always you part. I feel like this season was more focused on penelope's development which i loved but it's not necessarily what the show was meant to be as well if that makes sense?
And i think it was worse because i didn't get the uproar about what she wrote in lady whistledown. If she told colin about marina herself, colin is a people pleaser he would have still married her and they would have viewed pen as bitter especially her family. And with Eloise it got the queen off her back and she lowkey needed a jolt back to reality. Idk this season was just flat for me , even down to the costuming :/
