And you never know. It could have also be a teen whose parents told him to get rid of the dog as a punishment. I've actually known a few people whose abusive parents have done this for the most ridiculous of reasons.
Another factor could've been due to that a lot of pitties get euthanized if you take them to a shelter. Could've left him there hoping that somebody would take him in after seeing what a sweet dog he was.

It also appears as if the man felt like this was his only option, especially considering that he chose to tell someone about the dog (who was obviously loved and well cared for at some point before this). Most bad people would just toss him out on the streets without even thinking about it. My guess is that he couldn’t afford the surgery to care for him, after all it’s been a difficult financial time for everyone. This brings tears to my eyes because Trap looks exactly like a twin version of my Buddy who was also abandoned in a similar way on a Brooklyn NY street in 2004. I think he was only a year old. Buddy looks like his twin, has a wonderful temperament, and very sociable. thank goodness was rescued and fostered by a friend of mine, who was an animal lover and loved Buddy until sadly my friend passed away. I adopted Buddy when we he was 4 and he found his forever home. We moved from NYC to the suburbs of another state with his 2 rescues doggie brothers. Buddy has traveled cross country with me, loved visiting the Grand Canyon, and is a beloved member of our family. He is now 12 and lives out his retirement days with us, in the countryside, nothing but pine trees, woods to play and romp. He brought us nothing but good luck and happiness ever since we adopted and loved him, and I wish this pup a similar fate.

It's incredibly sad, we don't know the guy's circumstances, but the dog was obviously well-taken care of, despite old age and the normal problems that come with that. Some people just don't know how to go about asking for help with an animal they can no longer care for, people can be very hateful and judgmental when it comes to the topic of rehoming pets. Maybe the guy lost his job due to covid and couldn't afford to take care of the dog anymore, maybe he had no family or friends that could take him in. Maybe he didn't know how to surrender him to a shelter, maybe he was scared a shelter would kill him because he's a Pitbull. We just don't know.
If the guy didn't care about the dog, he wouldn't have told the shop owner he was out there, he wouldn't have dumped him in a public place at all. I don't think he took a picture to show someone he had "done it," like it was some nefarious act he did, he likely posted it to FB or somewhere, hoping someone would come get him soon to give him a better life than what he could provide and that's what happened.

in this circumstance that was kind of like people who leave a newborn at the fire dept for adoption. Notice the guy nods towards someone outside of the camera view. we dont know the guys story but that was a much better way of giving the dog up than usually happens. and it luckily worked out in favor of the dog. I am extremely judgmental about this type of thing because 99.9% of the time it doesn’t work out as well as soon or at all. So I usually would have some very nasty things to say about the guy because in general I would be very justified in saying so but this time was clearly different
and its an awesome ending. Its nice to see some positive endings.

IDGAF when you get a pet then you better provide for him. What if the story ended different and showed the abandoned dog betting beaten, abused, killed, and tortured. He didn't know what the outcome was going to be, its like problem gone. He didn't give a darn what happened as long as it wasn't his problem anymore. I'm not directing my anger towards you, just mad at the situation.

@@BrutalRiotGirl01 That dog was already kind of old, and judging from his behavior, very well loved. So he must have been in a situation where he could take good care of him for years. But we can't forsee what's going to happen. Who would have thought this pandemic would be possible in 2019? We can't control everything in life, and considering that the dog was already quite sick, he probably thought he'll get the medical care he needed if he gets rescued. That is what actually happened in the end. Of course that doesn't mean he did the right thing. But as far as I know, most shelters in the US kill dogs after some time, and Pitbulls often aren't easy to get adopted. So maybe he hoped to avoid that by leaving him in a very public space, knowing there will be good people to help him. Again, that doesn't mean he did the right thing, but maybe he just couldn't see another way. And if we only adopt animals when we are 100% sure that we can provide and care for them their whole life, then no one can adopt. Dogs can life more than 10 years, no one can see that far into the future.

The shelter I volunteer at, gets a ridiculously high number of pitties....they really are the most abused & misunderstood breed on this planet. You'd be surprised how many dogs that are abandoned in high populated areas, get picked up by the wrong people and end up worse off then where they started.
