Perfect video ! Find myself watching it every winter when it's time to put on the snowblower. Thanks!
i got my x380 2 years ago, and after reading some of these comments, I suppose i got a good deal -- $4800 here in NC. In any case, i put about 100 hours a year on the thing, and that little bit there about releasing the deck lever all the way forward RIGHT BEFORE pulling the deck out was something that wasn't in my literature. It's certainly a big help, and thanks for putting the step-by-step here on youtube showing it. Much appreciated.
I did this for the first time on my 2016 X590 with 48" Accel deck today. This video is perfect. I had read a lot of comments like ones below about what a PITA this is. I agree that it's fiddly and it should be easier. But it was not a difficult job. That said, I will pay MUCH closer attention to this procedure the next time I purchase. Listen up, Deere!
Thanks for this video. Had the bottom belt slip on my X570 and needed to take to the deck off for the first time. The owners manual was less than helpfull. This video was short, to the point, and showed the correct steps in the correct order making removing the mower deck simple. Thank-you. Thumbs up.
Everything is easy on a brand new machine !!
I just picked up a lightly used x500 series to replace my 316. $3500 for 54" deck and 2 stage blower.
Also pulled a ton of wood on the rear of my property. Somehow I got the deck on without watch a video after pulling the blower earlier this spring, however now that I need to pull if off I had to watch this vijayo.
I would agree with thelastmike, spending 8K or more and having to go through these contortions is insane and a great way for JD to lost customers. This seems like they engineered the tractor main assembly first, and then had a brainwave and remembered the customer has to put the deck on AND off.....
I'm over 40 and in decent shape, and still, come time to replace this JD or upgrade, I'll be sure to make the next one not make me wrestle in the dirt.
This is by accident, the only place I could find the route the belt follows from the engine to the deck. I paused at 2:09 and was able to finally get my blades to turn again. PITA
A very informative video!
It’s kinda hard to wiggle out 54 inch from an x590 even turning the wheels. Also the deck lifters hit...need to raise up deck so they raise up almost enough to clear. I’d say it takes 10-15 min if you’ve done it before. It this probably easier to jack up the mower to remove blades for sharpening than remove and install the deck. I also found the belt isn’t in the best shape after only 30 hrs...
Same goes for the X390. I just took mine off & back on for blade change. I found that if you jack the front end of the tractor up, the 54" deck will easily slide through. I used a motorcycle jack which lines up perfectly.
Ty
Ty…again.
That is one full ton of PITA for the price of these tractors. Spend upwards of $8G on a machine to lie on the ground with both arms under manipulating a 3/8 ratchet to get belt on and off? What happened to solutions used for years that were much simpler?
The upshot is if you want any convenience at all of maintenance they want you to buy a $10k tractor.
thelastmike you can do it from the same side as the ratchet. I just kneel down shove the ratchet over(I use a little breaker bar) and slip the belt off. Process takes 2 minutes top...
I'm personally not a fan of drive over decks. Its handy. Maintenance on the x300 and x500 series is a breeze. Takes 5 minutes to change the engine oil. Maybe 30 minutes to change the transaxle oil.
Better than removing the entire rear wheel to change oil in the 1 series tractors.
I have to stand by my initial comment. Why am I pulling cotter pins on an $8G machine to remove the front hanger? $8G and they can't spot me some quick latches up there?
Even the previous gen had a retained bar you could release and free belt tension so you didn't have to manipulate both that and the belt at the same time while trying to keep a ratchet in the right place. Sure this new setup isn't the end of the world if you are reasonably young and reasonably fit. That leaves a lot of people out.
Regardless for $8G they should be able to do much, much, much better, drive over deck or not.
Look at 20 year old Wheel Horse tractors or Simplicity. It's really not rocket science to have easier to manipulate connectors for these decks. And at this money these machines should have them.
Alan Hill I use the hook from an old turkey fryer for pulling the hanger pins... it certainly isn’t as easy as these videos portray it to be
I agree. For the price this is a way too much of a hassle. Even on my X350. Those rear deck pins are a major pain in the ass to pull out. Even in the video he struggled. Mine are 10x worse. Not buying this set up again.
I shouldn't write this now as I'm still on tilt after removing and installing the 48 " deck on my x350 for the first time. I can't believe how they could design something so poorly. The rear deck pins are a garbage design that adds a great deal of difficulty to what should be a relatively straight forward process. I'm no spring chicken and I can't see how in the future I'm going to be able to lie on the ground trying to guide those pins in while lifting the heavy deck to align them. I paid good money for this machine and I'm really pissed.
Try this with a 3 year old mower... not so much fun
Didn't show me shit with all that writing on the screen
