Sir......this is an awesome video in my opinion!! I'm a private pilot with all my hours and landings in Cessna's and Pipers. But.....I always wanted to try a 'dead stick landing'. I think it is awesome to do that because it will prepare you for a real engine out emergency! They never let you shut the engine down when you fly with an instructor......just pull the power back to idle and go through the motions......close to the real thing...I guess. And I never would do it when alone!! So.... I appreciate you showing that there is no need to panic when flying.....The three rules when flying.....Aviate....navigate.....communicate..... In that order!!
Great, simple idea with the drill guy! I took off with a chase cam in my Trike ultralight. What the takeoff didn't RIP apart on takeoff the landing finished the job! You gave me a great thing to do! Thank You for posting! I might try it on my Paramotor too! Took my 503 Kolb to 14,300 one day! It was hanging on the prop & I was freezing my butt off! Nice talk through too! Enjoyed it all.
I really enjoyed this video. 6 minutes is quite a loooong time! Excellent camera work. So nice to be without the "elevator music" or the irritating computer music.
That camera setup was boss. I have never seen that before. Whenever I have deadsticked it, I have never shut off the engine, just idled it. Anyway, that was the smoothest deadstick flight and landing I have seen in an ultralight. Good flying.
.....one more thing.....I, too, learned to soar (glider) before going to single engine fixed wing. When you were gliding down back to the airport it brought back some fun memories. Very cool.
That was cool. Thanks for the video. I want an ultralight, too. I'm not current on my pilot's license single engine fixed wing because I can't justify the cost any longer......but, ultralight? ...this might be doable for some enjoyment just to get in the air again.
I'm jealous! I emailed Kolb. They wrote back, "because of fluctuating metal cost...no producing aircraft now". Bwah! If yours ever goes up for sale, write me back. And, yeah, awesome flight.
Well done! Thank you thank you for no skinny jean music. Love Trent Palmer's videos, but can't watch em anymore unless on mute due to all the skinny jean music.
Nice! I liked performing deadstick landings in my (Cobra) ultralight produced by (Advance/Advanced Aviation) Good times. Id like to have a 2 seat STOL-ish LSA or ELSA *at a good price* lol. Great vid.
I no longer have a medical since I had some heart issues. I’m thinking about getting into an ultralight maybe, you certainly make it look like a lot of fun.
You can’t beat the freedom, fun, and economy of Ultralights. You do need to be mechanically inclined or have a close friend who is. There are very few A&P mechanics who will work on them. I prefer to do my own maintenance, and Part 103 allows that.
Nice dead stick landing. A 2 cycle engine used to power an ultralight aircraft is going to quit running leaving you with a glider to land. No question about that. Been there done that. Two of my friends were killed flying these machines. One due to engine failure on take off. One when the prop to hub bolts failed and caused the prop to shear off the tail boom resulting in pilot and passenger death. Still love to see these machines fly but I will never get into another one.
Really nice video! Have you ever tried restarting the engine midair? It seems like you could reach the cord over your shoulder. Because of the airflow over the prop, the motor should start very easy. One handed pull should be sufficient.
Great video sir. You seem very knowledgeable. Do you know how firestar compares to aerolite 103 as far as glide ratio and rate of descent and overall ease of handling? Is it forgiving to less experienced pilot? Is it more difficult without flaps? Can you slip it to lose altitude? I know this is an old video but any comment/advice is greatly appreciated. Ty
What an idiotic move! Shutting off your engine leaves you zero options for a go around on that airplane. So here's one scenario: No radio no electric airplane enters the pattern and doesn't see you.... you're committed to a landing the second you shut that engine off. What happens? You gotta put it down in the grass or taxiway. Don't practice engine off, practice engine idle.
Thanks for narration without obnoxious music.
Very good video. I agree on the no music part. It's a sickness in our society to think you gotta have music with everything.
Nice video! Thanks for explaining what was happening during the flight. It helps me understand the thought process in a dead stick situation.
Great info on gliding the Kolb, I've wondered about soaring with it to have more flight time. Thanks for not playing crap music.

I really enjoy your narrative style. Our parachute pilot and looking to transition to a fixed wing as soon as possible. Thanks for the videos.

Awesome !! Looks so stable when it's gliding

Very interesting and enjoyable video.....first time I've seen an aircraft viewed from that way-back angle.....thank you!
These videos are addictive. Very cool angle and great camera work. Hope to see many more. Hope all your engine out's are in practice only.
i love the set up you have for your camera. Pretty ingenious.

That was absolutely amazing thanks for sharing 👍
Great to practice dead stick a lot, to feel comfortable with your glide path, & drop in on the numbers!!!
Nice view, and informative. It gives a sense of the motion of the aircraft. Thanks for the pleasant narration too!
Never seen a chase cam on an ultralight. I like it
Very nice relaxing. Excellent demonstration of how much time there is if the engine fails at altitude.
Thank you 🙏
Very good and fun to watch as a LSA pilot also! Dave Kansas
Great video and amazing camera work.

Great landing. It was good to see you in person while I was there at the LSRM class three weeks ago. Keep up the great video's
A very fun video to watch!!!! Thank you!!!
Somebody should hire this guy to narrate documentaries......Good video better voice....Top man..👍
Thanks! I'm seriously considering selling my Cessna 150 and buying a Firestar. I was wondering about the glide. Thanks for showing it to me!

Very good practice. 40 feet short of the taxiway spot from 3,000 feet is a winner anyway.
Nice work! Very good practice and love the camera idea!
Great video , and some good flying :)
that was beautiful.
Now that was a great video!
Nicely done sir...!👌
GREAT video of flight 😎
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing it.
Very interesting!

Thanks for sharing, nice job!
I made my living in Music but I really enjoyed your video and narration. Nicely done. Details about your camera were interesting as well. Thanks!

Excellent video. Thanks for sharing 👍. I just subscribed 😀
Very cool. Clever way to mount the camera.

After seeing the prop spin on it's own, I think you're right. I might be able to pull and air start if I was flying fast.

Здорово, все отлично, самолёт держит полет на все сто.
Beautiful Video
Liked/Subscribed !
I miss my Firestar II so bad, wish i hadn't sold it.
Very good commentary
I LIKE THIS FLY
Please I need help ....What is the main boom diameter & wall thickness ?
I want to start flying ultralights. Still deciding on build vs buy used.
Great! Thnks
good stuff. Do these come as a DIY kit when you buy them?
Видео красивое!!! Будьте осторожны когда отпускаете камеру, при попадании в турбулентность или при боковом ветре тросик может намотать на винт.
Nice!
Hello, can you tell us about your chase cam setup? Thanks!, great video, and good energy management.
Mario - I've got another video that shows the construction of the drogue and the spool for the drill ruclips.net/video/qtj13raGESk/видео.html
Nice video without annoying music
FYI I heard a P51 pilot say he was practicing his engine out and he was at 5500 feet so he could do a 180 to land. Can you say BRICK.
Сколько весит самалёт ?
Why is there a drill hanging of the cockpit
Very well done! Enjoyed the narration, with out music. Still flying?
I sold my Kolb last May but I recently bought it back, so I’ll be flying again soon. Hope to do some more videos
@@wakataka53 lol, missed it? Looking forward to your videos.... Im looking at a kolb.... simple flying is the most fun...
Beautiful video.
Does the Firefly glide better than the Ultrastar?
YOU REALY KNOW HOW TO FLY
nice to see - btw what engine is mounted on your airplane? Mike w in Liverpool
It's a Rotax 377. Plenty of power for this airplane.
Did you have experience before flying ultralight?
Make a small strap to go from one foot to the handle. Drop kick that motor going :)
Corning, NY ?
It's Corning, California
Mega top
I have to try this at KLAX
_"Interesting sky_ . . . _"_ You honestly don't know that we're being sprayed like cockroaches?

Your camera swinging around makes me sick thumbs down.
