That's one of my favourite quotes - Einstein said so many brilliant things!! Happy to have your company while I'm having fun. Thanks so much for commenting.
I enjoyed the emotional connection you spontaneously wove as you developed your piece. Your imagination added a touch of magic to the end result. Thank you for a very relaxing few minutes.
What a lovely, thoughtful comment, thank you. The characters in the photos often weave stories for me as I work with them... so I'm just sharing what they tell me! Very happy you enjoyed the video. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Thank you... yes, it's always about storytelling for me - and usually it feels as though it's the characters telling me the stories rather than the other way round!
I love your instruction about balancing. And telling us the story as you create is so entertaining, it’s as if someone is reading a book to me as they are creating the book. Love your work, love your videos.
Oh, that's lovely feedback, thank you. So happy to hear you are finding the videos both entertaining and helpful. Thanks so much for your company on this creative journey.
Absolutely beautiful page! And I love that you find out a story while composing the page. Also love how you are telling us about your thought process about balance etc, very useful. Thank you!
Excellent - hope you enjoy it (there are two versions - one with me talking in detail, and one moving through more quickly with musical accompaniment - if I remember rightly!).
Thank you so much Alison I really really enjoyed watching you create this beautiful and stunning double page spread, and the story you created along with it. I really really love ❤️ ❤❤❤ it and the way you create everything so it fits perfectly together too. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
Thank you very much, dear Alison, for another wonderful inspiration in this video 🙏🤩, it is fascinating to accompany you in your process and to always learn something new, I am very grateful to you 🫶💙
Thank you - it never feels as though it's me telling the story so much as them telling me stories as I'm working with them. None of it is ever planned in advance! I suppose it's automatic to me, after all those years in the theatre, to read stories in people's faces and body language.
Yes I understand that - I used to sing opera and do miss the stage work - I might see if I could bring that drama to my journaling - could you imagine it lol!
Alison…such deep satisfaction seeing you play. You have no idea how blissful these videos are. Thank you for sharing your techniques and thoughts and stories. Such a privilege. Even to a simple crafter like me who’s been playing for a few decades already. Sometimes I lack a bit of courage to be brave enough. You might very well be the one to gently dissolve my boundaries - sort of. Isn’t that great? 🥰 Grateful greetings from your new fan Hilde in Belgium
Thank you so much, Hilde - your comment has really made my heart sing. I am thrilled that you are finding inspiration, satisfaction, bliss (what a compliment), and even a little courage to be creatively braver (an even greater compliment) here on the channel. Greetings to you from the wilds of South Bohemia, and thank you for your company as well as your lovely words.
So happy to hear that, thank you... Yes, the stories just seem to tell themselves to me as I'm creating. It's how my creative process has always worked!
So happy you enjoyed seeing the stories emerge... they weave themselves as I'm working, which gives me such pleasure too. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Thank you - as I've just been saying to another commenter, the thinking-out-loud is making me much more aware of things that "just happen" when I'm creating without filming (when the thinking-out-loud is just thinking, and much deeper in the subconscious than when I'm saying it out loud for you all on camera). Happy you're enjoying the glimpses into the process... so am I!
This is amazingly good. I keep watching your videos over and over. I don’t think my compositions are very good. I will work on that. Thank you, treen 💕💕💕
Thank you for another lovely comment, Treen. I've just been mentioning in other responses that the thinking-out-loud that I'm doing for the filming is obviously not usually out loud, and it's also not usually that conscious when I'm creating without filming. So I'm also learning about what it is that's going on in my subconscious during the composition process!
Love, love the stories your art tells! Someone else may see a different story, but that is why we create…so it touches others!!! And your art does just that!! ❤❤
Exactly... we all live different stories, and so we all see different stories, and we all tell different stories - that's the great glory of creativity and imagination. Thank you so much for your lovely comment.
I loved watching you as you thought through each decision. Watching and listening to you as you brought balance and cohesion to your pages was like being in a master class. Thanks so much! 🤗🇨🇦🤗
Thank you so much for that lovely thought... it's good to know that my thinking-out-loud has some worth other than within my own creative process! Though of course if I'm not filming, it's just thinking rather than thinking-out-loud - and it's far less conscious. It's quite interesting for me to hear what's happening coming to the surface as I'm filming. Another learning curve!
These pages look so fabulous 😍 loved seeying you make these and meanwhile make a whole story around the paperdolls that make them come alive and part of the story you are creating❤ thanks for the inspiration Alison❣️
Thank you so much for that lovely comment... It usually feels as though it's not so much me telling a story, as me being told a story by the characters as I'm working with them!
Hello Alison! Thank you for sharing your play time with us! There are so many things to love about today’s play: gathering some options to have close by for inspiration and to easily reach for during the creative process; the vivid story line that was woven between the elements; the educational aspect of balance, technique, and composition; and the overall delightful result of the 2-page spread… just lovely!!! My playtime today is finally working with my YCS (Your Creative Studio) curated vintage collage collections that I started getting in JAN-2022. I use an 8”x8” sketchbook each year and do 3 two-page spreads for each month. I debated cancelling the subscription at the beginning of the year since I’d done it for two years and have accumulated a lot of collage fodder =) … well… I missed getting them so I ended up ordering them but hadn’t actually started working with them until last night when I finally did the first 2-page spread for JAN-24… which I credit you for giving me the confidence to play again - in a variety of ways! Thank you so much for all you do to encourage and inspire! Have a wonderful weekend! 🙂
Oh, that is so great to hear... that you've been inspired to start creating with some of those hoarded supplies. It's so easy to collect beautiful vintage papers (and other fodder and endless craft products!) and never use them... but how lovely that they are coming out to play now. I'm delighted to have played a part in encouraging that - thank you so much for letting me know, and for your always thoughtful and heart-warming comments.
Happy you enjoyed it... the musical flip through is already live here ruclips.net/video/TYqLY1mSDsI/видео.html and the one where I talk more about each page will be coming up in a couple of weeks' time. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Thank you so much... Mostly, it doesn't feel like I'm telling the stories, but that I'm being told the stories by the characters as I work with them... is that weird?!
Brilliant story telling with art journaling! I inherited a lot of photographs from this era and often wonder what is in the minds behind those serious faces- especially the girls. So helpful to hear and see the reasons behind your choices and to see how they affected the whole. Thank you!
For a long time, they had to have serious faces because of the camera technology. A photo exposure took a long time, and it was far easier to hold still enough to stay in focus with a solemn face than with a smile... so they weren't necessarily all terribly gloomy or miserable! So glad you enjoyed the storytelling as well as my thinking-out-loud. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
oh yes, you are so right! I vaguely knew that but hadn’t thought of it in relation to my pictures. You have inspired me to take some of them and tell a story and give them some life again. Thank you!
This has been so lovely to watch, I just love the miracle of something by coming from nothing. It’s just marvelous. I was laughing with you at your story telling of the two characters, I thought for the dark circle you could have tried the phone dial and made her an operator in her day. 🤭 The metal circle you ended up choosing came out much better I think.😁👍🏻
Thank you for another lovely comment... yes, that storytelling thing often takes me by surprise - it seems to emerge out of what's happening on the page without me having very much to do with any of it! Have a lovely Sunday.
Love the pages and the story it tells. Also, I m always at a loss at how to put my Tim Holtz ephemera together, and your layering style is inspiring me so much. I don’t organize my TH ephemera either, it’s kinda fun to dig in the packets. Thank you!
So happy to hear you are discovering ways to play with your ephemera... and yes, I like digging through and then having that magical moment when you spot just the right thing buried at the bottom! Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Yes, well... 37 minutes isn't very many compared to - say - 472 minutes (to pluck a number at random)... it's all relative! Happy you enjoyed it. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Oh, that will be a wonderful thing to do... I'd like to be using family photos too, but my mother won't let me yet!! (Even though there are many doubles and multiples of people we hardly know who they are... one of these days, I'll persuade her!) So happy that you enjoyed the video, and that you are inspired by it. Thank you for your company on this creative journey, and have a lovely Sunday.
That's grand to hear... I do sometimes wonder whether my thinking-out-loud is a little odd (when I'm not filming, at least it's not out loud!), but as long as it adds to the fun that's okay by me - I can live with being a little odd!! Have a lovely Sunday.
Thank you - happy you like it. The girl is from the large Portraits set, not a Paper Doll. The boy I'm afraid I can't give you a serial number for, or launch date for the pack. I empty my packs into tins so they're all mixed up - sorry! But he's been in most editions, I think.
