When you use higher handle base valves, you have no problems with insulating. Removable insulation cover is also a way to solve that. Also, we use synthetic rubber adhesive to joint instantly insulation edges together(it is old butaprene base glue, now brands name: K-flex, Armaflex, Aerofoam, etc....glue). It can be extra secure with synthetic rubber (3mm) tape and any MS Polymere adhesive, to strenghten top of the seal and avoid future opening. But we do not use adhesive(like Bond&Seal) to fill up insulation gaps, it has poor insulating values. In heat pumps systems inside runs thermal bridges are not a big concern, but in freezers refrigeration lines yes....
