Levelling up a duel spirit will give you an extra copy of their card, which is why 3 is their max level for 3 total copies. This is especially important because the duel spirit cards can't be found in packs.
This is a great way for my morning to start Zane! I've been playing Duel Links every day since Takahashi-sensei passed and these videos are outstanding retrospectives on the games. Really good to play on repeat while I work on script fellowship applications.
Like a Phoenix, Mr. Silver rises back again. Since we are in the era when I stopped playing YGO (and it's videogames) for a while, this is new material for me. Looking foward to it.
I have good memories of this game and did like the spirits mechanic. That said of the 3 starter spirits you could end up with Jerry Beans Man a decent 1750 atk monster, Adhesive Explosive an essentially inferior Blast Sphere that lacks the inflicting damage, but still destroys the opponent's monster so alright, but then we got Oscillo Hero #2 which just what a troll spirit to get as a starter, which seriously it's like they threw that in just because it has hero in the name with it having no redeeming factor to it compared to the other two.
Really loved this series of retrospectives. The recent announcement of the Early Days collection by Konami got me really nostalgic for older yugioh game content and I'm really hoping the amount of love they've been showing the older games, especially the Duel Monsters/Shin Duel Monsters line of games, means we could see similar off the wall type of YGO games once more in the future.
I love this series so much, I grew up with the YuGiOh 5ds World Championship games and it's so cool to hear about games I didn't play that have similar features!! I can't wait to see the next one!!!
This was always one of my favorites as a kid. I didn't get a PSP until around Tag Force 5, so I only had access to the DS-exclusive YGO games as a kid - needless to say, Konami knew Nintendo's install base demographics. Revisiting this one as a young adult was fun, but messing around in the post-game gets pretty boring when you can reliably OTK everyone with Shining Flare Wingman.
this one, the GX Playstation 2 one, & World Championship 2011 were some of my favorite Yu-Gi-Oh games :) it feels like they never really figured out balance though. cause most Yu-Gi-Oh games seem to want you to already be the top ranked tournament players when a lot of us just want to mess around with our favorite cards, archetypes, or anime character's decks.
You're right about the spirits, a higher level will indeed make their effect better. For example, the effect of Oscillo Hero #2 is giving you more time to think during monday exams and you'll notice that you have way more time to think if he's at level 3 compared to when he was level 1. Leveling them up will also earn you an extra copy of their card, which is the only way to get them. If for example you need 2 or 3 copies of the water star monster for a water deck, you WILL need to levelup the spirit. As for the forbidden cards, having to beat some characters multiple times till they finally give you the forbidden card you want can be really frustrating. For example, I just got the one Chumley can give but he only gave it after my 97th victory against him... And you have to do this with a lot of characters if you wanna have 100% of the cards. Getting the two forbidden cards from the dark magician girl spirit are in my opinion the hardest ones to get since she appears extremely rarely.
this is my favorite of the yugioh games. I have so much nostalgia but would have loved a slighlty extended card pool. I think it is just well done and fun.
I agree that the amount of Yugioh games during this era definitely canibalized the series sales in the long run. I have never heard of any of these games before.
Hello I am new on your channel and i love your content what you keep showing and explain all the details about how Yu-Gi-Oh! get a change through years, well but there only still one thing has confused me why you did not talk about Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Games on the PSP because these are an amazing game, and everyone is agreed. and they give everything what a player wants from story line to graphic improvement to animations everything ... Please talk about these games if you can and please everyone if you agree with me and wants Zane to talk about it, please heart my comment for he can see it thank you all Keep up with your work and hope someday to see you on the top.
Hey, I just discovered your retrospective and wound up binging them over a few days. I noticed it's been a while since the last upload, so I was just wondering/hoping if this is still ongoing.
Just got this game for the first time today, I had WC07 and nightmare troubadour back in the day so I’m excited to play through this, feels familiar and new at the same time so I’m enjoying it, clocked just under five hours playtime already 😂
I would love a game with an OC where it’s like spirit caller but through all of the yugioh history Make it like a 200 hour plus game I’d play it for a decade to collect all the spirits in battle city alone
Tag Force 2 is my favorite and it's opening hits hard as the best of the GX games. Also Tag Force 3 is just really odd for it never coming out in NA and for it having 5DS era cards/Tuners which was so baffling to see.
I managed to in Tag Force 1/Beginning of Destiny romance Alexis pretty quickly granted I was using a walkthrough to figure out what was needed to romance her and befriend the other characters.
Can you do a video on how to connect it to GX spiritcaller to nightmare troubledour and if you have to actually beat the story mode to be able to send the god cards to that game and also can you send all 3 of them or no?
Looking Forward to the 5D’s Retrospective, and maybe one for the Zexal 3DS Game and the Arc V one that never got localized but has Fan Translation Roms
I love your videos and hope you do all of the games at least through 5ds. Reverse of Arcadia was my first yugioh game and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it
Anyone have any idea what happened to this guy hasnt posted a video in 10 months and twitter in a year. Was really looking forward tonhis future videoanin this series. Hope hes ok.
I love this series of videos, but sadly this game was too boring for me even though im a huge fan of GX. I tried back in the day but the whole system was kind of tedious and having played the Tag Force games with their fast gameplay was the nail on the coffin.
return of the king
There truly is nobody covering the yu-gi-oh video games as good as him! Deserves way more eyes on his work.
Return of the (Duel) King
Tekken? Lol
I miss the gx rpg games after all nothing beats chilling out with the crew in schoolyard
Levelling up a duel spirit will give you an extra copy of their card, which is why 3 is their max level for 3 total copies. This is especially important because the duel spirit cards can't be found in packs.
But are they not bad cards anyways ?
Or am I missing a trick with them ?
@@AHeroAlmostJerry beans man is a decent beat stick when you first get him

thank u so much for these retrospectives, I'm on a yugioh nostalgia binge and these vids have been super enjoyable and informative!

Love this series man, you are doing a great service to Yu-Gi-Oh history.
Glad to listen to more of your retrospectives!
I love this series so much, I grew up with the YuGiOh 5ds World Championship games and it's so cool to hear about games I didn't play that have similar features!! I can't wait to see the next one!!!
So excited to see you cover Tag Force
Same I loved the Tag Force games
Looking forward to the next one. Love this series.
Hope you're doing well! You're videos are always a joy to listen to.

I hope you continue more of this series, I love these videos
Well hey, stranger! What brings you to my feed after all this time? Glad to see you're still making great content.
You're right about the spirits, a higher level will indeed make their effect better. For example, the effect of Oscillo Hero #2 is giving you more time to think during monday exams and you'll notice that you have way more time to think if he's at level 3 compared to when he was level 1.

This game is great, also pack glitch in US version was life saver
Hearing the opening song Teardrop and seeing Spirit Caller together was just a blast of nostalgia for me
this is my favorite of the yugioh games. I have so much nostalgia but would have loved a slighlty extended card pool. I think it is just well done and fun.

i know there are Masked Chopper OTK videos out there, how playable they actually were, well, that's another story
Hey, I just discovered your retrospective and wound up binging them over a few days. I noticed it's been a while since the last upload, so I was just wondering/hoping if this is still ongoing.
Loved this game, it felt like I was really living the duel academy life in my mind
Someone must have activated Monster Reborn cos this guy is back
The OST for this game is LEGENDARY. It's so good. It's right up there with Halo 3's OST, Never Forget. 😎
Hey, man! Love the series! Hope to see more from it! If you need any help, let me know! :)
Oh no I'm gonna have to wait forever for the 5Ds era won't I? (it's the only series of YGO I care about)
Recently picked up Spirit Caller. I really like the DS era story games, wish they'd make another one like them someday
Little correction about the deck builder: it is accessible anywhere (the right most button on the bottom right on the touch screen)
Just got this game for the first time today, I had WC07 and nightmare troubadour back in the day so I’m excited to play through this, feels familiar and new at the same time so I’m enjoying it, clocked just under five hours playtime already 😂
Please, Zane! Come back!!!
For you, what are the top 3 games?
The promotional cards are always so random. I wonder why.
Are you going to cover the tag force series?
I would love a game with an OC where it’s like spirit caller but through all of the yugioh history
Make it like a 200 hour plus game
I’d play it for a decade to collect all the spirits in battle city alone
Hopefully the king will return one day
Tag Force next bayBEEEE
Tag Force 2 is my favorite and it's opening hits hard as the best of the GX games. Also Tag Force 3 is just really odd for it never coming out in NA and for it having 5DS era cards/Tuners which was so baffling to see.
Finally, tag force 3 and 6 are the best
I managed to in Tag Force 1/Beginning of Destiny romance Alexis pretty quickly granted I was using a walkthrough to figure out what was needed to romance her and befriend the other characters.

Very grindy but fun game
I loved this game

Which games are in the nightmare troubadour line ?
Hope to see you again soon stay healthy
Alexis knocker will never not be amazing
What happened to this series?
I love this game
Interesting.
The worst part of this game is looking for people to duel
Really hard 2 get 100% all cards
Tag force plz?
tag force next
Hope you’re ok👍🏻
U don't need to go to ur room for the deck builder
I love this series of videos, but sadly this game was too boring for me even though im a huge fan of GX. I tried back in the day but the whole system was kind of tedious and having played the Tag Force games with their fast gameplay was the nail on the coffin.
I have all the cards
This game is garbage
