They were kind of billed as the 90s ABBA at the time. You can see why ... they did some decent songs but never quite lived up to ABBA of course. But then again, who could?
This is an iconic 90s song. It wasn't/isn't really within the scope of my taste in music, but it's fun and relatively harmless, and you can't consider yourself knowledgeable about 90s music without being familiar with this song.
For female Fridays you should check out The Corrs. They're an Irish family band made up of one guy and his three younger sisters. The youngest, Andrea Corr is the lead singer. They had some really good songs like "breathless", "Runaway", "Irresistible", "What Can I Do", "Would You Be Happier". But if you really want to hear something different, check out them performing "Toss The Feathers", it's traditional Irish music.
Ace of Base is a Swedish pop group, formed in 1990, originally consisting of siblings Jonas, Linn and Jenny Berggren, with Ulf Ekberg. They achieved worldwide success following the release of their debut album Happy Nation in 1992. Later re-issued as The Sign, it was certified nine times platinum in the United States[6] and was the best-selling album of 1994. One of the most successful debut albums of all time, it was the first to produce three No. 1 singles on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 chart: "All That She Wants", "The Sign" and "Don't Turn Around". They continued to score hit singles throughout the 1990s, with songs such as "Beautiful Life", "Lucky Love", "Cruel Summer" and "Life Is a Flower". By 2002, they had sold a total of 30 million copies of their first four studio albums, making them the third most successful Swedish group of all time, behind ABBA and Roxette. Despite being largely inactive since 2012, the group has never officially disbanded. In the last decade, they have released a number of demo tracks, first via their Facebook page, then in 2015 on the compilation album Hidden Gems. An expanded two-disc edition was included in the 2020 boxset All That She Wants: The Classic Collection. Jenny Berggren continues to perform the group's hits in solo concerts around the world.
Definitely remember this from the early 90s but also a resurrection in the movie pitch perfect. It was the song that the bellas sang at every competition over and over and over again 🤣🤣🤣
When they were a hit in the 90's, they were always referred as the new ABBA (both Swedish) just like the Oasis as the new Beattles (both British). I listen to both group during my teenage years.

One of my shameful, secret likes!! Back in my day if you were caught with this album on your CD mix, you'd be shunned from society as you knew it!! You guys are hilarious in your reaction!
not 80's. Was the 90's. They were flaming hot in their time!!! Loved loved them!! I was a female just startin to goin to clubs to dance. Perfect timing for me when they came to be. Went to club in Buffalo when I was 18 because it was legal then and continued clubbing till my mid 20's. Got married at 24 so stopped that whole scene. I was a club hopper!! Went to ALL the clubs because I loved to dance!!
Ace of Base was a Swedish Pop group that reminded us all of ABBA. But they disappeared & stopped making music. I'm not sure if they're making any new music here lately. They all have strong Swedish accents & they had very popular music.
My very favorite Ace of Base song! There are other really good ones out there too! The women have beautiful voices, and I think you both liked it too! ♥️The old white woman
It was an international hit, topping the charts in eight countries, including the US for six weeks, and reaching the top 5 in several more. It was later nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance By a Group or Duo in 1995.
And I always loved the little hitch in her voice in second stanza when she says "joy". It always made me think of someone trying to convince themselves that they had joy, but their voice belied the falsehood in their words.
Hey there! I love your channel ❤️ I wish you would react to "Brother To Brother" by Canadian singer/musician Gino Vannelli. The album version of the same title. His voice and musical arrangements are phenomenal!! I promise you won't be disappointed! ❤️
Hi Rob Squad! I wanted to thank you for doing a reaction to the song that I requested, that unfortunately got blocked. I appreciate your effort. THANK YOU! Have a beautastic weekend! (that’s a combo of beautiful and fantastic)
There's a couple of 80s songs you've got to hear - "Kiss You (When It's Dangerous)" by Eight Seconds and "Send Me An Angel" by Real Life". Also "Moonlight Desires" by Gowan.
I love Send Me An Angel! Somehow I didn't discover that song until a few years ago (even though I was an 80s kid), and I was shocked it wasn't a more recent song because it sounded so ahead of its time. They sounded a lot like Placebo (who I love) to me.
New to your channel, spent hours last night watching loads of your reactions. It's so good watching you react to a lot of my favourites (your reaction to Queen songs are my favourite so far as I'm a huge fan of them). You should give the song Stay by Shakespeare's Sister a go on your female Friday its a good 90s tune. For a bit of rock/punk you could try Jesus of Suburbia by Green Day or Song 2 by Blur. Another Queen one to check out if you haven't already is Who Wants to Live Forever. Look forward to watching more reactions :-)
The hand percussion instrument is a very ancient type of drum typically used in music from the Middle East ( Egypt , up through and into what was once mesopotamia) called a Djoumbek. I have 2 of them. It's basically a hollow tube that flares out at the top with the drumhead stretched across it really tight. Like stupid tight ! That's why even though it's a hand percussion it almost has a metallic quality to the sound. Like I said I have 2 , one is 10 inches tall x 10 inch circumference. The big one is same type of measurement but the magic number is 13.
You should definitely react to All That She Wants next: a song my Mum listened to over and over while trying to get pregnant with my sister - and now my sister is having a baby herself. I'm getting old.
It can’t be understated how big Ace of Base was in the early 90s. They were billed as “The modern day ABBA,” and they were inescapable. When I was in 3rd grade, I formed a fan club for them that met at recess. All we did was take turns reading the lyrics from the cassette sleeve. Lol
I remember they were labeled the Abba of the ‘90s. Not saying their music isn’t enjoyable, but I don’t consider them to be in the same league as Abba. Even so, albums like this kept CD racks full in the mid-90’s.
There are two fan theories about this song: one is that is about a woman who leaves an unhappy relationship and realizes that her vocation is to become a nun and other that it's about band member Ulf Ekberg (the blonde guy) that after spending his early teens in a skinheads gang changed his ways and became a pacifist, to the point that he was nicknamed Buddha by his friends.
Their other songs I like are "All that she wants" and "Beautiful Life"

I did my military service in the fall of -92 and spring of -93, and all the local radio stations would play during spring was Ace of Base - All that she wants, over and over again. Occasionally they would throw in a bit of Tasmin Archer - Sleeping Satellite, but not much else. The Sign was maybe released a year later or so.
Another sibling band I'd recommend checking out is The Corrs...they are an Irish family band. You should definitely listen to their song Breathless
How about doing One hit wonders Wednesdays. There are so many good one hit wonders!
In 1994, this song was completely inescapable!
Great more Swedish music ☺ so much good music from there
Oh the memories! Definitely check out All That She Wants!
You guys REALLY need to check out some Post Modern Jukebox. You will be amazed!
Definitely do The Corrs, 3 sisters & their brother. Stunning family band (looks & talent).
Only the great know of this song , if you’re just now hearing this … you’ve missed out ALOT !!! 😂
Very nineties pop sound and I always loved this song with the instrumentation and vocalization.
And I always loved the little hitch in her voice in second stanza when she says "joy". It always made me think of someone trying to convince themselves that they had joy, but their voice belied the falsehood in their words.
the pure 90ies.... one of my alltime fav´s
♥ it

Hey there! I love your channel ❤️ I wish you would react to "Brother To Brother" by Canadian singer/musician Gino Vannelli. The album version of the same title. His voice and musical arrangements are phenomenal!! I promise you won't be disappointed! ❤️
I love Gino. "I Just Wanna Stop," "Living Inside Myself," "Black Cars."
Always Have, Always Will is another joyful Motown song of theirs you should listen to
You have to listen to Lisa Loeb "Stay " the story amazing. Or Natalie Merchent
This is the 80's version of ABBA
90s.
Heavy ska influences, with a mixture of dance pop.
You might recognize the song because it was featured in the first Pitch Perfect movie.
I about fell over when Jay said it sounded like a chorus song…it was used in the movie Pitch Perfect about acapella groups! 😂
Hi Rob Squad!
I wanted to thank you for doing a reaction to the song that I requested, that unfortunately got blocked.
I appreciate your effort. THANK YOU!
Have a beautastic weekend! (that’s a combo of beautiful and fantastic)
Another better track is ' all that she wants. '
Don't forget their excellent cover of "Cruel Summer" !
As a 53 year old male I love this song! It's out of my normal genre but the girls voices are phenomenal!
Roots of the rythmn is reggea dancehall that got famous in the late 90's
The early 90s version of ABBA from the 70s...
Billboard Hot 100 #1
as I recall this one of the biggest radio song ever, It broke the mainstream 40 record as longest no.1 song on chart, it stay for 16 weeks
They remind me of a 90s version of the 70s group ABBA
I first heard this song on a Full House episode when Stephanie sings it lol
The hand percussion instrument is a very ancient type of drum typically used in music from the Middle East ( Egypt , up through and into what was once mesopotamia) called a Djoumbek.
I have 2 of them. It's basically a hollow tube that flares out at the top with the drumhead stretched across it really tight. Like stupid tight ! That's why even though it's a hand percussion it almost has a metallic quality to the sound.
Like I said I have 2 , one is 10 inches tall x 10 inch circumference. The big one is same type of measurement but the magic number is 13.
Yes, I love this group, All That She Wants in the next please
Just infectious. This was the song that you sang along with whether you wanted to or not.
You should definitely react to All That She Wants next: a song my Mum listened to over and over while trying to get pregnant with my sister - and now my sister is having a baby herself. I'm getting old.
In this same genre, check out Roxette 'The Look'
It can’t be understated how big Ace of Base was in the early 90s. They were billed as “The modern day ABBA,” and they were inescapable. When I was in 3rd grade, I formed a fan club for them that met at recess. All we did was take turns reading the lyrics from the cassette sleeve. Lol
I remember they were labeled the Abba of the ‘90s. Not saying their music isn’t enjoyable, but I don’t consider them to be in the same league as Abba. Even so, albums like this kept CD racks full in the mid-90’s.
early 90s had A LOT of dance music
An awesome sibling group from the 70's is the "Sylvers"
There are two fan theories about this song: one is that is about a woman who leaves an unhappy relationship and realizes that her vocation is to become a nun and other that it's about band member Ulf Ekberg (the blonde guy) that after spending his early teens in a skinheads gang changed his ways and became a pacifist, to the point that he was nicknamed Buddha by his friends.
Was going to share this same info
